The German soccer player scored his first goal of the season and the first of the 2026 MLS regular season.
Trump's Friday morning so far:
-- extremely disappointing 4th quarter GDP number
-- inflation report hotter than expected
-- Supreme Court strikes down tariffs
kind of amazing that everything trump does can be understood through the lens of narcissism and it's related needs (e.g., self aggrandizement, revenge, domination, grievance validation). i don't think any character has been so one-dimensional, not even wile e coyote or scrooge mcduck

cover of the band Pure Hellβs album NOISE ADDICTION, featuring four glammed-out Black men looking cool as hell
PURE HELL was the first Black punk band. They lasted from 1974-1979, but a falling out with their manager meant their record didnβt come out until 2010. I gave it a listen:

Is "single-stair reform" (allowing single-stair egress) an important facet?
Are incentives?
How do we create an environment where developers desire to build 3+ bedroom rental units?
The city took action on long-vacant Quinn Chapel, but its efforts didnβt come to fruition fast enough.
Instead of another unproductive heat island, perhaps the Treasurer should be focused on ways he can help #stltornado victims.

Thereβs no shortage of parking on Olive Blvd. The excessively wide, underutilized street already serves as a parking lot π€¦πΌββοΈ. Alders should vote no on this nonsense.

The collective will celebrate its grand opening with βRoute 69,β an exhibition from Janie Stamm and Brittany Mosier, on March 20.
What a bunch of fucking morons. I did $90m in construction business last year and Iβm pretty sure most of my clients will be affected by this. They build businesses here, employ US citizens, construction companies, serve our communities. Think about those Somali daycares with real children in them
Iβve been writing about the AT&T tower for nearly a decade, and today I finally got a chance to go inside π
No executive board room tour unfortunately, though Iβm told it has βRitz Carlton old moneyβ vibes.

βAs grateful as I feel, I donβt need to say anything except that, no one is illegal on stolen land. Itβs really hard to know what to say and what to do right now, I feel hopeful in this room and we need to keep protestingβ¦ fuck ICE.β
You find out how much a business/property owner/government/community values people outside of cars when it snows.
Also businesses chronically underestimate the portion of their patrons who arrive by other means than a car.

A sidewalk on Chippewa outside Target, covered in 9 inches of snow. Itβs been heavily trafficked by pedestrians.

A sidewalk off Hampton outside Walgreens, covered in 9 inches of snow.
Every company that plows their parking lot while neglecting their sidewalks is not only flouting their legal obligation. They are sending a clear message about which of their customers and neighbors they deem worthy of care and access. Looking at you, Walgreens and Target. #StLouis #stl #stlwx
If you're wondering why weather forecasts were like, "You can expect anywhere from 4-179 inches of snow this weekend," it's because Elon Musk fired tons of NOAA/NWS folks who were sending up the weather balloons that help with accurate modeling and forecasting.

Some perspective: The S&P opened down -1.3% on Trump's Greenland saber-rattling. That's $750 billion of wealth destroyed -- roughly equal to estimates of the value of Greenland.
And so ~in dollar terms~ his shenanigans have already cost the US one Greenland, and we've got nothing to show for it.
A world where NATO and the postwar order falls destroys all that. If you cannot make a case for it, get out of the way of people who will. If we arenβt fighting for this thereβs nothing else to fight for
Every city has their own unique challenges post-pandemic, but we are not that special
The historic theater is owned by a faith-based group, which plans to fight the decision.
Despite being landlocked, surfers and kayakers are flocking to Boise, Idaho.
The cityβs artificial whitewater waves built into its river have transformed the local economy, and other communities are following suit.

Excerpt reads: "Prioritize your neighborhood Neighborhoods drive our happiness (or unhappiness) more than we think. When Lina Martinez, director of POLIS, the Center for Wellbeing Studies at Universidad Icesi in Colombia, studied the happiness of households in the city of Cali, she couldnβt find much difference between poorer and richer areas. βTheir happiness is pretty much the same,β she said. But that changed when she isolated neighborhood conditions, such as access to transit, health care and parks. βThe conditions of the neighborhood affect happiness,β she said. βI canβt link that to the space where [people] live.β That aligns with findings from a 2023 study of the Vancouver metro area: Researchers found no significant differences in well-being between people living in single detached homes, duplexes, townhouses, laneway houses and apartment buildings (basement units smaller than 300 square feet were the only negative exception). What did people say they missed most in their neighborhood? Affordability, proximity to family and friends, and a sense of community. Home design was eighth on the list."
A Washington Post article suggests that, beyond a certain threshold, larger homes don't make people happier. Instead, well-being is correlated with affordable housing in walkable neighborhoods where they feel socially connected.

A good new year's resolution for the City of St. Louis: stop people from dumping along the Riverfront Trail. It's pervasive. It's shameful.
