Marcel Hartel is relishing his role under new coach When St. Louis CITY SC head coach Yoann Damet took the reins ahead of the 2026 season, Marcel Hartel could hardly contain his excitement. β€œAll I have to say is it’s a very good structure,” Hartel said...

The German soccer player scored his first goal of the season and the first of the 2026 MLS regular season.

kind of amazing that everything trump does can be understood through the lens of narcissism and it's related needs (e.g., self aggrandizement, revenge, domination, grievance validation). i don't think any character has been so one-dimensional, not even wile e coyote or scrooge mcduck

PURE HELL was the first Black punk band. They lasted from 1974-1979, but a falling out with their manager meant their record didn’t come out until 2010. I gave it a listen:

Historic Carondelet church was nearly savedβ€”but fire had other plans For more than 160 years, Quinn Chapel stood in the Carondelet neighborhood, erected when that neighborhood was its own independent city separate from St. Louis. Built as the one-story, brick North Pub...

The city took action on long-vacant Quinn Chapel, but its efforts didn’t come to fruition fast enough.

You find out how much a business/property owner/government/community values people outside of cars when it snows.
Also businesses chronically underestimate the portion of their patrons who arrive by other means than a car.

NOAA cuts weather balloon launches due to staff shortages after DOGE layoffs | Alabama Reflector Weather forecasts in media are almost certainly derived from data and model computations made by the National Weather Service using weather balloons.

If you're wondering why weather forecasts were like, "You can expect anywhere from 4-179 inches of snow this weekend," it's because Elon Musk fired tons of NOAA/NWS folks who were sending up the weather balloons that help with accurate modeling and forecasting.

Some perspective: The S&P opened down -1.3% on Trump's Greenland saber-rattling. That's $750 billion of wealth destroyed -- roughly equal to estimates of the value of Greenland.

And so ~in dollar terms~ his shenanigans have already cost the US one Greenland, and we've got nothing to show for it.

Excerpt reads: "Prioritize your neighborhood
Neighborhoods drive our happiness (or unhappiness) more than we think.

When Lina Martinez, director of POLIS, the Center for Wellbeing Studies at Universidad Icesi in Colombia, studied the happiness of households in the city of Cali, she couldn’t find much difference between poorer and richer areas. β€œTheir happiness is pretty much the same,” she said. But that changed when she isolated neighborhood conditions, such as access to transit, health care and parks. β€œThe conditions of the neighborhood affect happiness,” she said. β€œI can’t link that to the space where [people] live.”

That aligns with findings from a 2023 study of the Vancouver metro area: Researchers found no significant differences in well-being between people living in single detached homes, duplexes, townhouses, laneway houses and apartment buildings (basement units smaller than 300 square feet were the only negative exception). What did people say they missed most in their neighborhood? Affordability, proximity to family and friends, and a sense of community. Home design was eighth on the list."

A Washington Post article suggests that, beyond a certain threshold, larger homes don't make people happier. Instead, well-being is correlated with affordable housing in walkable neighborhoods where they feel socially connected.
