Raccoon from the Seattle area. Greymuzzle, but young at heart. Friends describe me as "ok in small doses". See Also: https://fursuits.online/@tilton

A year or two before I was born, my parents paid $50 a month for a shitty apartment there. Ah, how times have changed 😞

Most days on Bluesky are like β€œHmm, are these very alarming posts just normal background doomerism, or did something extra bad happen that I don’t know about yet?” and it’s usually 50/50. I should read social media a lot less.

Pretty excited about this: I'm renting a sod cutter next weekend to kill our lawn, and I'm going to replace it with a Pacific Northwest native seed mix from this Oregon seed seller. I am sick of mowing grass. And besides, screw lawns.

If I were less moderate I'd be using what we affectionately refer to as "Direct Action"

Every once in a while someone will say β€œyou know, you should take a more moderate position on LLMs”, but here’s the thing: no

Also my dad lives in Scottsdale so I visit often and no way it’s the third happiest city in the country. I CALL SHENANIGANS.

I lived in Fremont for AGES, and while it’s a pretty nice place, I would question the β€œhappiest city” label pretty hard!

Stick welding feels so much harder to me than MIG, too, so that's impressive! It sure is fun though :D

Yeah... but, on the other hand, AI has ruined software engineering for me, it's not fun any more. Maybe I can do personal projects in Erlang and it will be enjoyable again.

I bet AI is really really shitty at Erlang. I should learn Erlang.

I could see this being very entertaining if it’s a topic the person is passionate about, they have a sense of flair, and everyone gets to be in pajamas and drink wine! On the other hand, if they’re all C-level executives, please god no, god nooooo

I’m gonna be the angel on your shoulder and say β€œbut you just paid off your card!!!” But, I still want this for you X3

Cross-posting my posts from Mastodon manually is always uhhh interesting because the limit there is 500 characters and here it’s 200 characters so I get to make a lot of editorial decisions 😬

Honestly, well worth it. We had four giant dead trees taken down, probably around 50 to 70 feet tall each (15–20m) and he only charged us for two.

I finally sold the mini skid steer I’ve been trying to unload, and now I’m back down to having only one! Whew. I ended up trading it to our arborist in exchange for some tree work, it was his idea.

Heck yeah!! I’ve been learning to weld recently, mostly MIG but also a little stick and most recently TIG. It’s so incredibly satisfying. I would love to build a trailer, it’s on my list for this year!

Pretty soon, the only way to get porn will be the way we used to do it back in my Gen-X childhood days: finding magazines stashed under a log in the woods behind an apartment complex. Man what a thrill woods porn was to a 14 year old. Hubba hubba!

I never want to work in the tech industry again, it's just so completely over. I'm not depressed about it or upset, it's more like resigned at this point. I'm very happy doing other things in the real world, so let's figure out how to keep doing other things in the real world.

I don’t know if this is a terrible take or not, but land acknowledgements just seem so performative to me. I would rather know that your institution did something meaningful and tangible for indigenous people, not just tack some statement onto the footer of your emails and web pages.

Hnnnn. My welder can TECHNICALLY do some TIG if I buy $360 of peripherals, but only DC welding, so no aluminum. Also it’s Harbor Freight so not top quality… but Lincoln Electric makes a pretty affordable dedicated AC/DC TIG welder that comes with everything I need except gas, and I’m sorely tempted.

It’s an β€œin office” day for me, so I’m up at 6:30 so I can be at the office by 9:45 so I can be on a Teams call with the rest of the team at 10:00! They want us to do this every day of course. The future is incredibly stupid.

ALSO! 90% of that is survivor bias. All the terrible shit got forgotten BECAUSE it was terrible. And forgettable. And not good. But we endured it nonetheless, just like now!
