Screenshot of twitter bio of the aforementioned Meta employee with the with a stated job of "Safety and alignment at Meta Superintelligence".
Stated job in bio is "Safety and alignment at Meta Superintelligence". The irony almost writes itself.

The CIA just stopped publishing their World Factbook and took every page, including the archived copies of previous versions!
This sucks. It was public domain, so I recovered the 2020 edition (the last one published as a zip file) and shared it to GitHub simonwillison.net/2026/Feb/5/t...

"Constitutional crisis does not even begin to capture the radicalism of what is unfolding in the federal bureaucracy and of what Congressβs decision not to act may liquidate in terms of constitutional meaning."

It's so weird that in the end Twitter became state media

Trump's Greenland obsession is a very concrete example of why the Mercator projection is bad.
Oh noo here I was believing everything I read on FB. Will have to be more careful starting tomorrow I guess.

This rings true to me as someone who has been living abroad for years but just started working fully in the local language. Language is infused with it cultural context and norms that have an impact on how we present ourselves as people.

Nearly twenty years on, S3 remains one of the most useful (and used) cloud provider primitives. This is a cute log implementation that is so simple and only possible because object storage is so good these days!

A screenshot of Instagram's Terms of Service with the following highlighted, "Your Commitments: You must be at least 13 years old."
Correction: by creating account you tacitly agree to be over 13, which you'd have to open up their full terms to discover, linked externally.
Interested to see what the aforementioned βreasonable stepsβ will looks like re: enforcement. Itβs supposed to be 13 and up in the US but last I checked itβs a checkbox on signup.
If I remember correctly, it was @dankennedy-nu.bsky.social who introduced me to On The Media when I was in his class. Thank you Dan!
I've been following the work of @noupside.bsky.social and @hankgreen.bsky.social for ages and last week they were on @onthemedia.bsky.social where they spoke on media literacy in the internet age. It's well worth a listen if you aren't an OTM regular: www.wnycstudios.org/podcasts/otm...
Heureux que vous soyez ici avec nous tous !
Speaking from experience, the Europe / California gap is one of the most challenging. I am confident that you will find your way. They are so lucky to have you!!!
I hear that in my soul. Also just starting a new job at all can be lonely depending on your team / geo structure.

New: A conceptual model of how ATProto works, for ActivityPub people
I wrote about how to think about how ATProto works, how it differs from ActivityPub, and what decentralisation and federation even mean anymore

And I'm ready for what's next.
Today is my last day at a company I've been with for eleven years and two monthsβa tenure I'm unlikely to exceed somewhere else. Through many job changes, reorgs, acquisitions, a country move, and several corporate owners, it's been a wild ride. I'm proud of the work I've done here.
My first Linux install was Dapper Drake (6.06). Took me a day to get the sound card working and maybe a week before I had wifi. Those were the days!
Screenshot of a twitter account search for "RATP line," for the Paris metro system. Each line has its own twitter account: Ligne1_RATP for line 1, Ligne2_RATP for line 2, etc. Surprisingly, only seven out of the ten lines visible in the screenshot are verified accounts and three are not.
Screenshot of a twitter thread from Paris metro line 8 detailing a stopped train. A reply asks, "Was the cat recovered safe and sound?" "Not yet, Sophie," replies line 8, "we are doing what's necessary, don't worry."

Now all I'm missing on bluesky are the paris metro lines with realtime traffic info. I hope they found that cat on line 8 last week.
In Paris, they even closed the parks and made it a fineable offense to use public benches for a while. Which predictably lead to people either congregating on crowded sidewalks or gathering illicitly inside.
With the recent influx(es) to Bluesky, my feed is finally starting to resemble what it once did during the halcyon days of the bird site.
That is some A+ costume work for a Muppet movie.
