Netflix Backs Out of Bid for Warner Bros., Paving Way for an Ellison Takeover

The richest man owns X.

The second and third richest men control Google.

The fourth richest man owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.

The fifth richest man owns The Washington Post.

And now the sixth richest could soon take over both Paramount and Warner Bros.

See the problem here?

Good morning.

If you've just woken up, the politics of hope just crushed the politics of fear and hatred (Labour-Reform).

It wasn't even close.

40.6% for the Greens. Reform second on 28.7%, Labour third on 25.4%.

27.02.2026 08:26 πŸ‘ 2036 πŸ” 371 πŸ’¬ 49 πŸ“Œ 36

This is a big deal! If Reform can replace the Tories, Greens can replace Labourβ€”and beat Reform.

The Q is will we learn the right lesson from this, which is: unite behind Greens now if we want any chance of beating Reform. The story must not be about Labour’s failure but about the Greens’ success.

The danger w abundance is people hearing β€œaffordable housing” and thinking it’s a progressive movement. So abundance allying itself with tech billionaires is probably a good thing bc it more transparently shows people that its just another neoliberal agenda perpetuated by the capitalist elite πŸ™ƒ

Broadly speaking, there are 2 political factions. Not Labour v Tory/Reform, Republicans v Democrats etc, but an economic elite, operating globally, versus all of us. Though they are small in number, through the power of the political, media and social media systems they control, they keep winning.

IF YOU'RE UNEMPLOYED IT'S NOT BECAUSE THERE ISNT ANY WORK
JUST LOOK AROUND: A HOUSING SHORTAGE, CRIME, POLLUTION; WE NEED BETTER SCHOOLS AND PARKS.
WHATEVER OUR NEEDS, THEY ALL REQUIRE WORK.
AND AS LONG AS WE HAVE UNSATISFIED NEEDS, THERE'S WORK TO BE DONE.
SO ASK YOURSELE, WHAT KIND OF WORLD HAS WORK BUT NO JOBS. IT'S A WORLD WHERE WORK IS NOT RELATED TO SATISFYING OUR NEEDS, WORLD WHERE WORK IS ONLY RELATED TO SATISFYING THE PROFIT NEEDS OF BUSINESS.
THIS COUNTRY WAS NOT BUILT BY THE HUGE CORPORATIONS OR GOVERNMENT BUREAUCRACIES.
IT WAS BUILT BY PEOPLE WHO WORK. AND, IT IS WORKING PEOPLE WHO SHOULD CONTROL THE WORK TO BE DONE. YET, AS LONG AS EMPLOYMENT IS TIED TO SOMEBODY ELSE'S PROFITS, THE WORK WONT GET DONE.

I came across this "critique" of degrowth today in Catalyst magazine, by two prominent writers. I was struck by how wildly incorrect it is.

This is the shit that happens when capitalists delude themselves into thinking that vital environmental regulations are the reason we can’t have nice things.

As long as production is a product of the growth imperative we will only ever get what’s profitable for rich people instead of what’s needed

What even is the point he is trying to make? Yes, the totally superfluous thing I’m building uses a lot of energy but so do things that are completely non superfluous?? What kind of argument is that

We can move beyond the capitalist model and save the climate – here are the first three steps | Jason Hickel and Yanis Varoufakis Capitalism cares about our species’ prospects as much as a wolf cares about a lamb’s. The sepia one is nicer if you’re taking headshot photos or something but the one on the right might feel more natural for an interview or something

It's rare to see how lobbyists operate. But the Epstein-Mandelson correspondence shows us what happens all the time: plutocrats and government ministers conspiring against the public interest. This is why all lobbying should be in the public domain, but despite Labour and Con promises, it's not. 🧡

Bilbo looking at his phone top

on bottom is ChatGPT

After all, why not? Why shouldn't I keep it?

You're absolutely right β€” you found it, it's been with you a long while, and it's only natural to feel fond of something that's served you so well, especially when someone like Gandalf suddenly seems to want it for himself.

This is excellent political messaging. @zackpolanski.bsky.social hits straight to the core of the problem. This system is intolerable and it must be overcome: production should be organized around human well-being and ecology, not around maximizing profits for the rich.

'Venezuela has oil' The kidnapping of the Venezuelan president and attempt to seize the country's oil is act of desperation from the US hegemon.

Yes I wonder about this.. I’m hoping Fiona will get her comeuppance from this but I suspect people will just lol and move on

How does it help them? It helps Stephen bc it takes the heat off him β€” but only by putting it all on Rachel and Fiona, two people who were implicitly trusted by everyone and would have waltzed through to the final together had Fiona not done this.

(Not complaining β€” Stephen is the kindest traitor)

09.01.2026 06:42 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

No way! Rachel and Stephen had a genuine pact to support each other. Fiona came in and started bragging and being sus about Rachel for no reason, and now she’s jealous that Amanda trusted Rachel more. Absolutely wild that she’s blowing it up because she’s paranoid and jealous

Yes!! This is what confused me β€” they made it so obvious it was her in ep 3 that I was like they’ve got to be playing that up because it’s a red herring. Was astonished that no one else seemed to have even noticed??

I thought it was revealed in the previous episode β€” she had two VTs about how she’s playing up being a little Welsh lady and β€œdoesn’t need a shield.” I didn’t realize it was even still supposed to be a mystery after that…

Over and over the US inflicts obscene violence against the global South, in flagrant violation of international law, to maintain the conditions for capital accumulation for its decadent billionaire class. It's disgusting and intolerable. We cannot continue to accept this.

03.01.2026 15:04 πŸ‘ 797 πŸ” 303 πŸ’¬ 7 πŸ“Œ 4

Remember that the US *does not care* about the people of Venezuela. It is not about "narcotrafficking", or "democracy", or whatever propaganda they have going. It is *explicitly* about US control over oil, capital accumulation, and geopolitical power.
