Display is physically broken & I may have caused further damage while removing it.
At least it worked for a few minutes 🤷
If I got to repair this, maybe it would be a cool idea to 3D print a new EWS64 front panel case with space for the display, which could be routed with a little cable.

This is the absolute only Pokémon ROM hack I would ever recommend.
And the only things added are tons of bug fixes, a 60 FPS mode and some (extreme) difficulty settings that can be toggled.

It goes so far that I attempted to get a custom cartridge made in the EU but failed 🤷

To be precise, it is inside the Terratec EWS64's 5.25" front panel.
One of its advantages over the AWE64 Gold (besides less noise, bigger soundfont memory, no bugs and front outputs including digital) is the ability to connect a wavetable daughterboard.

Huh. My WavetablePi appears to work, but its display sure doesn't.
I did configure the WavetablePi to use it, so I wonder why that thing stays dark.
Not that I would actually ever need the display, since it is on the wavetable daughterboard that is on the sound card, that is in the PC's case.

It's a lot worse than the usual translation issues. Lots of typos, grammar issues, sometimes the english sentence is hard to even decipher, with perhaps both a grammatical error and also two or or three words repeated for no reason, it looks (in parts) worse than even AI.

Oh and by the way: do you think 10.000 unused trucks with tanks just exist somewhere around there?
Because "2-3 million barrels capacity" doesn't mean there are literal barrels on the oil tankers. You can't unload such "barrels" onto a normal truck, you need trucks with a giant tank on them. 10.000.

12.03.2026 08:04 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0

And that's not even considering that it would take energy to transfer the oil from ship to truck and from truck to ship lol

12.03.2026 07:56 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0

Just for perspective:
A typical oil tanker would have a capacity between 2 and 3 million barrels, while a truck/lorry has a capacity of 200-300, so you would need 10.000 (TEN THOUSAND) trucks per tanker.
Each would consume about 2 barrels of refined fuel (not oil!) just for these 500 miles.

Tried to read an english-translated chinese web novel, and the novel itself is absolutely fine so far, but I absolutely cannot read on, the translation is so bad, I can't even speak Chinese (obviously, otherwise I would read the original instead) but the translation is giving me stroke after stroke.

I replay this every year, and if you haven't, do it.
Be sure to get original graphics and newer translation, though.
The first one was rushed, censored, and made one character talk ye olde englishe although nobody else in his middle ages does, and he doesn't in the original.

I got quite a belly after I had the accident and couldn't do sports anymore, but it has its advantages.
I guess I am confortable.

Looks like a fun game actually, but also very much like Paperboy minus the part where you throw papers left and right to supply subscribers and vandalize non-subscribers's property.

I should have read this part first.

I don't know about that, maybe inserting an additional bit at the start with your thoughts in hindsight about it could do the trick, the resources were used already after all, might as well at least keep the results of your work (you did put in work after all) and possible earnings, too.

But it's a sign of great character that you reflected upon it critically, changed your view, and are even able to admit that it was probably a mistake.
And speaking out about it may prevent someone else from doing the same thing (using AI "ironically"), so there's that.

Totally unrealistic picture - he is wearing a tie and no trucker cap.

It started with the Microslop account, but Copilot really took it to the next level.
Once the security updates for W10 stop, the main rig will be converted to Linux.
I have yet to decide on the distro, but been happy with OpenSUSE at work.

Don't be, it's not your fault and I'm super grateful for your cool care package!
I guess I'll try this again tomorrow, after removing the exploded cap as far as I can, and this time point the camera at it in case its neighbor decides to explode, too.

I'm way too scared to connect it to the PSU again and flip the switch a second time 😭

Excellent image!
I could have done without the jumpscare, though.
At any rate, my only other known working 486 board will not be put at risk, so sadly this marks a stop to my 486 adventures for the foreseeable future.

10.03.2026 13:10 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0

I guess my current situation is: I don't know if this was simply a coincidence, or if my PSU is to blame, but I won't take risks here.
Will have to find one that is recently tested or better yet, get a new one and an ATX-AT adapter.
I don't know how much damage the board took, apart from that cap.

So... I did control all the jumpers and tried to have it POST, but instead, I had a literal explosion on the board the instant I flipped the power switch.
Flying sparks and a loud bang.
TC26 is gone.
No idea how this could have happened.

But a nice surprise that my 486 DX2-66 was an AMD all along.
I had forgotten!
Not that it actually matters, I believe it is 100% identical to the Intel version, but I have a soft spot for AMD.

Suddenly realized I still have to check the jumper settings for this before I can even check whether it POSTs, in 2 hours (then 2:30 PM) I have to pick up my son, and once he's in bed I immediately have a mandatory thing to do that takes until 5:30 AM.
I guess it will get built tomorrow instead.

Es gibt offenbar mindestens elf (no pun intended) Teile davon, obwohl schon Teil 4 folgendes behauptet:
