A calendar reminder for April Fool's day to verify Jerry for one day and one day only.
Pondering whether or not to do this as an April Fool's joke this year.
A brown penguin chick of some kind. It looks very much like a man in a suit. It is bedraggled and miserable
Made it to Friday but at what cost
welcome @doctorow.pluralistic.net!
on your own PDS host (bsky.pluralistic.net), using did:web (did:web:pluralistic.net), and self-controlled domain handle.
looks like things are working/interoperating; let us (the atmosphere ecosystem) know if you run in to any issues
Hi! I'm the new Head of Communications @bsky.app.
I've been watching the open social web evolve over the past couple of years. Bluesky represents what I believe the future of the internet should look like: built on principles that put people first.
Tbh while most templates went through a rewrite with the strike system to give more detail, and will hopefully go through another one for the mod inbox- not sure the average user will understand decentralisation if we add it to our templates.
While thereβs work to do on the email language since we canβt email accounts created on other PDSes - it has usually been CSAM accounts trying to evade detection by engaging in this behaviour. So this is a rare edge case of migration and really hasnβt been factored into templates.
I donβt understand how regulators expect platforms, especially ones with zero revenue like us to secure the information ecosystem and identify all the gen AI content realistically.
He does.
Oh when the mail service breaks it isnβt pretty when ozone goes downβ¦
Hey devs! Heads up, we're planning on making some changes to our image CDN tomorrow.
- Images will be served as WebP by default
- The URL format you get from the Bluesky API will change a little
You can look forward to an announcement about image quality soon π
Issue isn't on our end, but needs to be looked at on the Blacksky side.
1908: the Lancet, one of the most respected scientific journals, calls for 18 age limit on reading in bed amidst a moral panic surrounding children becoming "addicted" to novels, which were "designed to keep kids hooked" and destroy their attention/mental health
oh yeah, that's a compromised account network that seems to be pivoting these account to some pretty wild stories.
It says not found so maybe deleted? Just waking up so not going to dig in for a while.
Personal news update: I'm delighted to announce that as of today, I am an actual Bluesky employee! I'll be working to welcome indie media and local govt to Bskyβand supporting those already here.
I'll always want to hear your thoughts on how we can make Bsky the sort of social media we all want!

I lived and breathed Iran for a few years, so can no longer speak with that level of expertise on all the players. Certainly the way the US leadership is speaking in the same tones as Venezuela, I don't think the new revolution... that replaces the revolution will get the things they want.
I'm sorry - overnight curfew for teenagers? We are getting further and further from coherent regulation with each governments' attempt to iterate on their own 'hold my beer' moment in the name of "child safety".
Having worked on Iran for a number of years in a previous role, itβs hard to comprehend how significant of a change this is. Heβs been in power since 1989. I knew experts who could tell you the current power dynamics based on seating arrangements around him.
Itβs funny that I donβt know his name but I know who you are referring to.
oh, that's what that button does?!
sure passed them on for review

Ah possibly due to the name similarity to those digest bots.
Been there for sure (I have some pretty vivid memories of ISIS from 2013-2014). If we can make further changes to ozone or make suggestions of resources to handle this at scale, happy to chat.
we're hiring a senior product designer at Bluesky.
you'd be designer #2. no design-by-committee, no six-month review cycles. just ship great stuff to millions of people.
come level up this app with us! apply here: jobs.gem.com/bluesky/am9i...
Iβd be happy to grant it but theyβd need to want it, since it would mean security considerations and having an internal process for who they verify. Can raise next time I meet with them.
Caveat - I have no legal background. This seems disruptive to the evolving state of social media regulations if larger companies ignore jurisdictions where they donβt have servers or a legal entity. Speaking as someone who canβt possibly keep track of regulation at all levels in this space.
Bluesky is the new science Twitter, new study by @whysharksmatter.bsky.social and Julia Wester concludes!
"Results show that for every reported professional benefit that scientists once gained from Twitter, scientists can now gain that benefit more effectively on Bluesky than on Twitter."
