Western civilization was a MISTAKE.

Yes doing the thing that repairs harm and actually disconnects from power is a rare

THAT IS THE PROBLEM

Motherfucker, the math that powers your war machine is ARABIC. The woman who enabled the GPS that enables you to rain death on civilians was BLACK. And let’s not EVEN talk about that the sheer number of immigrants and non-western folks who make this country what it is.

Fuck. You.

Why @why.bsky.team
Until December of last year I was using LLMs as fancy autocomplete for coding. It was nice for scaffolding out boilerplate, or giving me a gut check on some things, or banging out some boring routine stuff.
In the past two months Claude has written about 99% of my code. Things are changing. Fast

This sort of comment would make more sense if the site were notably better or even just different than two years ago.

I am forced to assume you just made it work the same but now no one knows how the code works

There's another dynamic going on, which no one in the mainstream press I've seen has touched (though @polgreen.bsky.social got closest), and that's the fact that it is unprecedented to ban or heavily restrict a treatment on the basis that the evidence isn't high quality enough.

Three weeks? That’s generous. I give it 72 hours at the outside.

i’ve said this on here before, but a fun* game is asking cishet white men when was the last time they were told β€œno” and they had to respect it and couldn’t negotiate their way out of it, and watching what comes to mind.

masking stories were still hot as of last year.

A broader takeaway I think is nobody should be allowed to be so rich that being told no, or being held accountable, represents such a moral injury to that person's psyche that they feel like their only recourse is to burn the world down.

Twelfth Night
A Midsummer’s Night’s Dream

In retrospect, this might explain a great deal about me.

This is consistent in the fedi as well.

It's true that moderation tools are poor just from a technical perspective, but what is even worse is that they are being built by folks who do not respect diverse culture.

This has been a consistent theme for my entire 20+ years on the web.

04.03.2026 17:16 πŸ‘ 25 πŸ” 6 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 1

Any attempt to argue against this is like pissing into the rain.

04.03.2026 17:21 πŸ‘ 27 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

You CANNOT argue with this, you can’t have a conversation with this. It’s just impossible because there’s no shared discursive ground.

Given the discursive and rhetorical moves on display here and strategy that involves β€œreaching across the isle” is a waste of time. They’re just not interested.

04.03.2026 17:21 πŸ‘ 49 πŸ” 2 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

So, this is a category mistake. Defining a woman and defining fraud are two DIFFERENT things and Mace is evacuating the difference between them by ignoring the fact that words mean things beyond their definition.

I make this point because β€œarguments” mean fuck all here.

04.03.2026 17:21 πŸ‘ 52 πŸ” 10 πŸ’¬ 2 πŸ“Œ 0

Imaging a human saying to you, "i will only ever tell you what i think you want to hear, based on what i know about ppl like you, how you start our conversation, & what you say during it. Sometimes that will sound like truth, sometimes like errors or lies. Now: Let's talk about your medical history"

Like, at this point I’m thinking that it’s not JUST that Bluesky devs thought it could provide a technical solution to a social problem, it’s that they didn’t even understand the social problems they were trying to solve in the first place.

04.03.2026 17:13 πŸ‘ 53 πŸ” 10 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 1

I still think blocklists are good, but they’re not an unalloyed good and their deployment on BlueSky fails (like most moderation tools On Here) to recognize that federation and decentralization don’t automatically eliminate the oppressive structures inherited from past platforms.

If you ever want to read a paper for free and can't find it otherwise, email the lead author and politely ask for a copy. You will not be bothering the person. You will in fact make their whole entire day. I have had scientists get so excited I asked they sent me everything they ever published.

"AI can do better social science research." Can it? Like come up with novel questions or sites of inquiry that start entire fields? Because that's what I did, and so did many of my friends. Fuck off with that mess.
