Last month Dr. Ammie Kalan, our resident Primatologist, went to Paris, France for a special workshop on the topic of LIFE, where her and a number of experts in zoology, anthropology, evolution, taxonomy, etc. helped to summarize the most important contributions to human knowledge with regards to the Nature of Life, the Diversity of Life, and Life and Society.
This is part of a long-term project called Sanctuary on the Moon where a vault of human knowledge engraved on 24 sapphire discs will be sent to the Moon on NASA's Artemis mission in 2029. You can read more at https://sanctuaryonthemoon.com/ and follow the project on instagram @sanctuaryonthemoon
When asked about her participation as a scientific expert on this important project, Dr. Kalan answered thoughtfully, "This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to showcase the beauty and significance of nature, and the closest I'll probably ever get to 'touching' the moon".

Where are the zombie worms?ย ย - UVic News
An Ocean Networks Canada supported experiment has revealed the absence of the โbone devourer,โ Osedax, on submerged whale bones, bringing scary lessons about climate change and potential species loss.
Zombie worms play a key role in recycling whale bones on the seafloor. Yet UVicโs @oceannetworks.ca hasnโt observed them in over a decadeโan absence that may signal how expanding low-oxygen zones, driven by climate change, threaten deep-sea biodiversity. ๐ชฑ
