The Halfway Point: A Pep Talk I wrote this for NaNoWriMo back in 2014. Now NaNoWriMo is gone -- and the Hunger Games theme is a little dated -- but writing novels is still hard

I probably shouldn't be too specific about it -- I think I'm still covered by an NDA -- but I was consulted! And I got to hang out with GRRM, which was amazing
I never realized till a kind soul pointed it out that my name is in the credits of KNIGHT OF THE 7 KINGDOMS. Bragging rights, how I love them

πͺ¦ We NEED to talk about the mass elimination of characters. Emerald Fennellβs #WutheringHeights merged some characters, vaporised others, not to mention, weβre missing the whole second half (though there's been talk of a sequel). Still, itβs decided, the loss of Lockwood is great. RIP Lockwood.
I love this one! (And blue and gold = King Arthur's colors!)

Thank you Sarah!
oh good! I don't get to teach very often -- a lot of stars have to align to make it work -- so this is a treat for me (hopefully also for the students)

Sapkowski named 3 books that made an impact on him lately: The Devils by Joe Abercrombie, The Rose Field by Philip Pullman and The Bright Sword by Lev Grossman.

A link to my (and Julia's) favorite poem in honor of the solstice. Though it hits different here in Sydney where it is in fact the longest day of the year.
A Nocturnal upon St. Lucy's Day
By John Donne
'Tis the year's midnight, and it is the day's,
Lucy's, who scarce seven hours herself unmasks...
Fantastic article by @levgrossman.com about Leonard Woolf sharing a cottage with B.J. Dutton in Ceylon back in the day, and how they embodied the two great genres of Modernism and Fantasy... Loved it!

Today -- unless I'm getting it wrong -- is the 10th anniversary of the Magicians TV show!
The world seems unfathomably different now -- I feel unfathomably different from who I was back then -- but my love for the show and the people who made it is still going strong

(A piece of minor personal trivia: Time magazine sent me to shadow Steve Jobs for the week before the iPhone was announced, which meant I was one of the first people outside of Apple to see and use one. I failed to foresee its terrible future as a lethal attention parasite.)
Also it's virtually impossible to play Wordle. It has shaved at least an hour off my weekly average.
