Follow up on my dodgy 4GB and 32GB (2 of each) micro SD from AliExpress: They were bought from the same supplier but since they were 2 line items I had to request 2 returns...

4GB: Here's a return label
32GB: Here's a refund, no need to send back.

Um. OK.

Embuggerance - it's such a good word, isn't it?

After four very busy years building global identity systems for Sky, my team and I have all been let go as they restructure.

If anyone needs 'big iron' Java services, wants to build a startup or create something new - let me know.

Reminds me of a theatre where I used to do sound & SFX. The stage power bay had a 100A breaker, but fed by a 60A one in the main electrical room (Huh?!). This caught out a few lighting engineers who didn't load plan each scene change carefully. We had the odd blackout when the 60A breaker tripped!

Last time I did some wireframing it was on a MicroVAX 3100 in around 1987.

The fix was to add a switch in the launcher file so not too drastic. Don't know why I didn't switch to Plasma sooner - it's snappier than Cinnamon and matches what I'm running on my laptop (Fedora).

All good thanks. Now on KDE Plasma. Very few issues apart from Signal desktop complaining about a change in key management, which apparently affects all Electron-based apps.

Using it on two repurposed BT Home Hubs as access points - works great. One AP is also my local DNS proxy with adblock and the other is also a WireGuard endpoint on my LAN.

Thanks for the insight. I might take it one step at a time and check out KDE plasma with X11 on Mint first; it's apparently better with KVM switching and won't require a complete OS reinstall.

Apparently this is a known thing and the fix is to switch to Cinnamon with Wayland, but when I do this other things I need, like Flameshot, don't work - but Fedora + Flameshot on my laptop get along fine. Any tips before I burn up half a day this weekend?

I'm thinking about ditching Mint Linux on my desktop and redoing everything with another distro (Fedora?). The main problem is that often when I switch my double monitors via KVM to my work laptop then back, Cinnamon (or a companion part) has crashed. Anyone else had and fixed this? Contd..

Forget all this fake online AI socialising.

Me and some mates get together regularly, in person, and have a cuppa & a lovely natter about all sorts of stuff.

Protip: When designing an electric or electronic circuit, make sure the fuse is big enough.
