Pritzker: "It's unconscionable. This has never happened before. They're calling out troops onto the streets of a state that doesn't want them and they're not even telling us where they're gonna go, what they're gonna do. This hasn't happened I don't think since the Civil War."
I feel like this photo of masked, armed men pepper spraying a pastor protecting his community is going to be a defining picture of this moment in America for a long, long time.
Pastor David Black, First Presbyterian Church, being pepper-sprayed outside ICE facility in Broadview, Illinois.
Assuming this is a Mac, (?) the shininess is from the material being smoothed by use, and keyboard covers can break the glass when the laptop is closed.

title : This government shutdown didn't happen by accident. it happened by design. 4 frame comic. we see Russell Vought, Curtis Yarvin, Russell Vought again, and the White House. Text reads : russell vought is the director of the u.s. office of management and budget and the key architect of project 2025. the nyt called him "the man behind trump's push for an all-powerful presidency." project 2025 includes a roadmap to achieve curtis yarvin's butter- fly revolution, in which the neo-reactionary leader advocates for replacing non-partisan gov't employees with loyalists, seizing control of public assets and centralizing power in a small group of elites. what vought aimed to do was create the conditions in which he could strip bare what he calls the "unelected fourth branch of government". back in february, he instructed agencies to prepare for mass layoffs on sept. 30th. this shutdown will give Trump the power to bypass Congressional oversight: Trump can just declare which areas are considered essential services, and ignore the 1974 law that prevents presidents from withholding federal dollars. this shutdown was the goal all along.
This shutdown happened by design.
I see so many of them where I live. I bet they migrated from up north.
Weβre protesting outside the Broadview ICE facility and an agent came out to tell us to go away.
We said weβre exercising our First Amendment rights so he shot the ground with pepper balls and said, βYour First Amendment rights are on the sidewalk.β
TW for some scary transphobia, but yet again have to share Erinβs reporting because itβs absolutely crucial.
FWIW, when I left the Post, Karen checked in on me. She's been a consistent friend of mine and I miss working with her. She risked her life and career to stand up after the killing of Jamal Khashoggi.
It should be needless to say, but it is perhaps at this moment worth saying, that transgender individuals have the same right as anyone else to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
Clever Fox planner is my fave. When I remember to use it.
1. In the immediate aftermath of Charlie Kirk's shooting, the WSJ laundered claims that "transgender symbols" were found with the shooter's gun.
Now, a press conference reveals that NO such symbols were found.
WSJ owes a full retraction and apology.

CNN. The initial report, also called a bulletin, typically include all information gathered in an investigation so that agents anywhere will know what is being collected - but the information is not always correct. The ATF bulletin said that agents found engravings that they interpreted as "expressing transgender and anti-fascist ideology" on ammunition inside a weapon believed to have been used in the murder of Kirk. Two law enforcement sources told CNN that agents quickly ran an initial search on one of the markings, including a series of arrows, which analysts initially interpreted to be a connection to the transgender community. That information remains unverified and is still being investigated.
The markings that supposedly expressed βtransgender ideologyβ wereβ¦β¦β¦..a series of arrows.
This ATF report is precisely why yesterdayβs events were so terrifying to me.
A screenshot of a news story by Glenn Thrush and Devlin Barrett saying "According to a preliminary internal report circulated inside the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, federal and local officials recovered ammunition with the rifle that appeared to be engraved with statements βexpressing transgender and anti-fascist ideology.β But a senior law enforcement official with direct knowledge of the investigation cautioned that report had not been verified by A.T.F. analysts, did not match other summaries of the evidence, and might turn out to have been misread or misinterpreted. In fast-moving investigations, such status reports are not made public because they often contain a mixture of accurate and inaccurate information."
NEW: @nytimes.com: a senior official said the report from ATF saying the rifle that killed Charlie Kirk "expressing transgender and anti-fascist ideology" had not been verified by ATF, did not match other summaries, and might turn out to have been misread
