Today, the new academic year has started with our course on Water Quality and Water Quantity. Students will learn the importance of a system analysis and how to determine surface water quality.

Today, we started with our practical course Aquatic Ecology and Water Quality @WUR. 35 enthusiastic students determining parameter values for their model to describe the oxygen dynamics in one of the university ponds. A pike checked out their activities.

A magnificent book arrived.👌 Winfried Lampert's opus magnum on the waterflea Daphnia magna, four years after he passed away.🙏 A great pleasure to remember the fantastic time I had at his Max Planck Institute for Limnology, a privilege he mentored me during part of my PhD research👍

Schandalig, 130 - 180 banen weg bij één van de beste universiteiten ter wereld. Populisten in Den Haag snappen kennelijk niet dat je dient te investeren in onderzoek en onderwijs i.p.v. er op te bezuinigen. 🤨

Got some nice pictures from the team today of the application of the P-binder Phoslock to lake De Ster (Belgium). Sediment cores have been taken and half of them will be treated with Phoslock to mimic the application in the lab.

April 15/16, under guidance of Limnological Solutions Int., the novel P-binder LimnoPLUS (aka Zeofixer, 10% La) was applied for the 1st time to an isolated lake in Europe. The lake had an internal load issue, let's see how it develops. Experiment with sediment cores runs in parallel in our lab.

We took some sediment cores out of the Groenlo canal and inspected a few low bridges too😂

Ook kabinet wil wetenschappers lokken, uit de VS en andere landen Minister Bruins ondersteunt de oproep van de Nederlandse Organisatie voor Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek. "Excellente" wetenschappers die het in de VS niet meer zien zitten zijn welkom.

Als je het belang van wetenschap ziet, dan lijkt t me logisch dat het kabinet ook de geplande bezuinigingen schrapt.😉
