Browsing around for something to watch, and HBO max has a "feelgood emergency kit" collection including The Banshees of Inisherin, Nightbitch and The Favourite. I have questions!
A slice of apple pie and a steaming mug of tea (with honey, though that's not visible)
My work gives you an additional day off in the week or so around your birthday. I'm taking mine today, and I'm annoyed because I'm spending it with a cold. But at least there's leftover apple pie!
mother!
Without a doubt

Same for movies. One of my godkids asked for "The Princess and the Pan" when she was about four. Took us a while to figure out she meant Tangled, but the name stuck!
Ok, ok, should shout out the positive, but "four-time Oscar nominee F1"? Is that really the world we live in?
(Confession: bailed after the first hour, so maybe it gets really great after that, who knows!)
I have that box! It's pretty great - I wouldn't necessarily say they're all good films, but none of them were boring! I recently promised I'd lend it to a friend's 11yo kid, who's really into Godzilla, mainly for The X From Outer Space
Loved this piece, so much. There's something special about finding a piece of culture that just clicks with you www.nytimes.com/2026/01/11/m...
I've had no luck for those either, alas!

The other side of the crochet phone pouch/bag, showing two slightly more muted flower motifs surrounded by dark green yarn.
I've been frantically crocheting lately, in a desperate attempt not to despair over current events. Not sure it's working, but at least now I have a cute new phone bag?
Three crochet flowers, as granny squares, in various bright colors
Should go grocery shopping but it's cold and snowy so I'm procrastinating by making crochet flowers
We always celebrate NYE with a friend who stopped drinking quite a few years ago. And that has led me to discover one neat trick for starting the year off right: even if you do drink, toast the new year with non-alcoholic bubbles! You've probably had enough already by midnight anyway, trust me.
I don't think it's an entirely successful movie, but I saw it at the cinema when it came out and as the credits rolled a little girl was happily dancing in the aisle and I love it for that alone. Also Hemsworth is so funny as the ditzy blonde secretary
Je moet maar tegen S. zeggen dat het minder irritant is als het eenmaal langer is. En regelmatig je snor (laten) trimmen want dat komt anders bij haar op een gegeven moment de neus in (ask me how I know...)

I'm doing some prep for an introduction to Hamnet I'm doing on Monday and I really enjoy the phase of just grazing through information, seeing what will give me an additional angle (Found the 60s biography at the Utrecht Central Station book exchange cart last night. Serendipity!)
I think the hockey part is also important because it shows that you can get straight guys to be interested in this kind of story too! Which most of us have known (my very straight bf noped out on Severance in part because the Irving/Burt storyline was too heartbreaking for him) but now is undeniable

Wanna know what I (and five of my film buff friends) thought were the best genre films of 2025? And, also, understand Dutch? Then I have something for you! schokkendnieuws.nl/podcast/een-...
One thing I like about my country is that one of the most famous Christmas songs is about a little boy murdering is dad (to avenge his pet rabbit). It's especially fun when you hear your 6-yo godkid enthusiastically singing it!
I really need someone to do some in-depth reporting about why Heated Rivalry is still not available here
IFFR tips: A Useful Ghost reminded me of the best of Pedro AlmodΓ³var. Absurdist, sweet but secretly angry, and sexy, too
My friend is a single mom of two girls. Eldest was asked, when she was about 4, if she didn't want a dad, and she said no, because with a dad it wouldn't be a girl house anymore! Told her I knew two girls without a dad but with *two* moms, and you could see her going π€― that that was also possible
That said: my main non-work use of Notepad is pasting text into it and copying it again as an easy way to strip formatting, and this nerfs that
