Huh, so I may have finally found a trick for good line rasterization outside of OpenGL Core.
Vertex shader stores the coordinates for each pair of verts, then in fragment I test them with a Bresenham line function, discarding pixels outside the line (& use conservative rasterization to avoid gaps).

I haven't had work in months.
I'm a good art director, expert pixel artist, and although I prefer to do art, I can also make entire games from start to finish if necessary, as pictured. Not the greatest coder, but I get the job done (like Chapell Roan I guess).

I got it! GameObject.FindWithTag is more efficient, but it's also only running 3 times; I was worried it was going to need to look for the pooled object manager with every footstep, but it only needed to look each time an AudioSurface type was encountered. So far so good! #unity3d #gamedev #indiedev

My hunch is every AudioSurface is trying to make its own pool and things are getting confused, so I'm going to externalize the pooled asset management.
How do I get the ScriptableObject to find the manager? FindObjectOfType<> seemingly would introduce new performance problems? #gamedev #indiedev

So I can't call a coroutine within the ScriptableObject. I tried to go with the method I understood to call a script that was attached to the AudioSource prefab and feed it reference to the pool, modified to try to Release itself from the pool after 1 sec. Some disable properly, some don't. #gamedev

I like VRChat a lot, do not mistake me. And Horizon didn't have much going for it at the start. My point was they were getting somewhere, and there were reasons for them to keep going. But like other attempts at "we can do Roblox/Fortnite", they pulled out just as the teams were turning a corner.

VRChat was only PC-focused for the longest time (and the mobile support today is still not able to access much of the content) as opposed to running directly on the device, the average first time pub experience for VRChat players is... "challenging", and Meta were trying to market to businesses too.

I feel Horizon wasn't that far away from figuring it out, years and years of work to get to where they were, but somebody at Meta slammed the emergency button on VR and now all the budgets have tightened up, the studios have closed, and it's clearly been deprioritized. It's almost always like this.

Now they're "pivoting it to mobile" since they see more success there, but why would kids play it over just playing Roblox on their phone, or Fortnite? Both of which took a long time to build up to what they are, finding the tone and the fun that people liked best, the social aspects, the audience.

People remembers the sterile unfun early days of PlayStation Home, but near the end they were figuring out how to make it better and have more fun with designs. Meta went through this with Horizon; we know how that started out, but they were figuring out better VR gameplay and more creative avatars.
