The time I saw NIN, Godspeed You Black Emperor was opening, and I knew nothing about them.

Guy comes onstage, starts tuning his guitar, another comes out, starts tuning and it's completely out of tune with the first, then another, then 15 minutes later I realized "wait, this is their first song"

I did not know that existed, that's amazing.

It's exactly what I would expect from "NIN plays Cars", and yet I could not possibly have imagined it.

The next two weeks are the only two weeks out of the year when Gary Numan is older than Gary Oldman

The very best mango I've ever had was in Manila. I don't really want to go back to the Philippines, but I do remember that mango with incredible fondness.

Okay, this is vitally important for me to know: does cheese *prevent* or *cause* oral cancer? One of these is great, one of them will send me into a depression until my cheese-based oral cancer claims me.

I learned more English grammar from my Latin classes than I ever did in any class from the English department.

I met Nick back in, um, 2000 or 2001? We had mutual friends in the interactive fiction scene. He was doing weird hypertext poetry and generated text even then.

I'm not trying say there's not something weird going on, but I don't think this is a case of "I used ChatGPT to write 10 sci-fi novels."

Three snow figures on a stone railing: one turtle, one T rex looking thing, and a rubber duck.

The neighbors down the block got creative post-blizzard. Please note the detail on the turtle shell!

Downcrawl is great, I've loved using it with my group. I've been eyeing Skycrawl, this might be the time.

David Byrne (singer for the Talking Heads) famously wore a Big Suit costume for their Stop Making Sense tour in the 80s (there's an amazing concert video of the show, go watch it, it blew me away).

The original post is the lyrics of the Talking Heads song Once In A Lifetime, translated to Spanish.

The pie crust recipe I got from my grandmother also makes two crusts, and since one ingredient is an egg there's no good way to have it, so I just usually have a spare pie crust in the freezer for next time.

Yeah, the south is the top of the map, which is interesting, I wonder if that's the way the map faces?

I am just past the top of this thing, very cool!

This tactic was also attempted by my then 12-year-old to explain their grades, and worked about as well with me as it did with the judge.
