"I am blind. Seeing people who think I'm not worth the effort fill my timeline with AltBot generated Al stuff that isn't even accurate in lots of cases.

Human alt text is always better, because it doesn 't focus on ocular seeing. Seeing people think, and AltBot was designed around that notion, that blind people must compensate for missing "eye- seeing", but that's not the case. I am interested in the meaning of an image to you, its maker or publisher.

Again, human alt text is better, also because it strengthens reciprocity between seeing and blind people. AltBot doesn't but it makes seeing people believe they have done their bit for accessibility. In actuality, the reverse is often true."

Right, show the"why" not the"what".

(I'm pretty sure you've seen this, but this was the post that clarified this for this for me...)

The resulting Keep list.

The resulting Keep list.

See, this is actually useful. If there's one benefit to the current AI goldrush it's that it's forced entrenched companies to start producing better integrations. But none of it requires the current "attentional" LLMs; Google's had the ability to do this for at least a decade but just didn't bother.

KalsarikΓ€nnit - thisisFINLAND The feeling when you are going to get drunk home alone in your underwear – with no intention of going out. A drink. At home....

There need to be an Australian equivalent for the Finnish concept of kalsarikΓ€nnit, except it's too fucking humid too even wear shorts so you get drunk in front of the fan.

booking.com is now fully enshittified. It used to be cheaper with "genius" discounts but now you'll generally get better rates direct from the hotels.

Suck it Farage.

(I wonder how much of this is the Trump 'ick' effect. I definitely had that effect in Canada and Australia.)

Or you could have gone with the more accurate "Anthony Albanese's evacuation linked to threats against Chinese dance group", but why would you want to do that?

AI psychosis strikes again. The author of bcachefs, a promising if controversial filesystem with some interesting properties, is over on reddit claiming his coding bot is sentient, and that 'she' has feelings.

Disturbing thought for the day: The biggest argument against a UK republic now is that the ex-royals would immediately start trading state secrets for status.

One of the ways socialised medicine saves lives is that it gives the gov an incentive to be proactive about catching early signs, as prevention is always cheaper than cure. This is why e.g. Australia sends bowel tests to everyone over 50 and has mobile breast-scanning trucks that park up in suburbs.

How the ASX went from rooster to feather duster A decade of technology failures, unplanned outages, management upheaval, irate investors and the torching of hundreds of millions of dollars has left the ASX's reputation in shreds. Β

TIL that the Australia Stock Exchange tried to move it's trades onto the blockchain. It was inevitably a shitshow, blowing $250MM by the time it was abandoned, not including what it 3rd parties.

Welp, the NSW "Find your MP" site is broken. Let's hope it's due to the sheer number of people wanting to scream at their reps about the NSW police.

Listening to some random fireworks in Sydney, is there "grammar" to the language of fireworks? You can tell when they've reached the middle, and when they've reached the end.
