We all know billionaires are gaining too much power over our democracy. People often think stopping it would make elections costly for the public but NOTHING can cost us more in consequences than the way we're doing it now. Please consider signing this @equalitytrust.bsky.social petition
Economic inequity hasnβt occurred because the wealthy are any smarter than everyone else, or working any harder.
It was caused by a series of policy decisions that have steadily made life easier for the wealthy, and harder for most working people.

Graphic stating billionaires cause homelessness with a quote from London Centric reading "London's worst mass eviction in recent history", referring to Asif Aziz's eviction of hundreds of people. Billionaires should be taxed, the graphic concludes.
Reporting from London Centric has exposed the ongoing mass eviction of hundreds of tenants from properties across London owned by Asif Aziz. Our lives should never be at the mercy of one capricious billionaire: we need to tax billionaire wealth, build social homes, and change our system.
Londonβs βworst mass eviction in recent historyβ is underway; hundreds of households across London told to get out of their homes this week by the same landlord, ahead of the renters rights act. The landlord? Billionaire Asif Azizβs Criterion Capital. www.londoncentric.media/p/asif-aziz-...
βCouncil tax is a very regressive and unfair system. Itβs made regional wealth inequality even worse. It essentially punishes poorer areas for being poor.β

Someone welding is the background to this text overlay that reads making or taking? public attitudes to wealth creation and extraction
We've released new polling this morning on wealth creation which sends a clear message to policymakers:
Back Britainβs genuine wealth creators - and take on the extractive practices draining our communities.

"The British public are strongly opposed to business models that are seen as extractive. Particular anger is reserved for business models that are understood to exploit consumers, workers or society more broadly, including those that avoid tax or rip off consumers."

a graphic saying '63% say they have cut back on essentials because of the cost of living crisis', with some trollies illustrating the proportion.
Almost two thirds of people in the UK have cut back on essentials due to the cost of living. The crisis isnβt over β itβs getting worse.
Today we're launching the Cost of Living Action campaign, calling on the Government to end this crisis and ensure it never happens again.
βWhat would it be like if everyone had what they needed to live a good life, and how would that be different from how things are now?β This is the question @equalitytrust.bsky.social Community Economists & @cts4change.bsky.social are asking to create a common vision for our future: buff.ly/oCifZjp
AOC: "Extreme level of wealth inequality leads to social instability and drives authoritarianism, right-wing populism, and really dangerous domestic internal politics. That is a direct outcome of the failure of democracies over decades to deliver."
Talk of building a good society is often met with the charge of utopianism. But this is wrong, argues @profkepickett.bsky.social of @equalitytrust.bsky.social.
The blueprint for a fairer society lies in front of us β but it requires moving away from βtrickle-downβ economics

Green and yellow layered heart with #heartunions text, stating billionaires organise so workers must organise
Billionaires are organising across the world, from South African billionaires trying to win control of political parties to American oligarchs undermining democracy wherever they can. The only way to stand up to them is for workers to organise back #heartunions
Green and yellow hearts display union benefits like maternity pay, sick pay, and pensions rights on a dark background.
If we want to build a more equal society, unions must be a key part of that. We know that more unionised societies are more equal, workers are more protected, and communities stronger - but that's far from the only reason to #heartunions this week
We asked our supporters who they'd hypothetically vote for in the Gorton and Denton by-election and a general election. 1/3 said they prioritised voting against a disliked party.
This week we're asking what you'd do with the House of Lords. Vote now: https://equalitytrust.org.uk/weekly-poll/

Collage of news clippings highlights billionaire influence on democracy, tax policies, and political campaigns worldwide.
The completely shocking utterly unsurprising reports about Mandelson, Epstein and banks show how broken the UK's system is β but we're not alone. Billionaires are exerting influence worldwide. We should stop them.
Inequality has a profoundly negative effect on health and wellbeing.
Not because it suddenly kills, but because it slowly reshapes how people live, relate, cope, and age.

The pre-eminent researchers into the impact of inequality said
Inequality as a fog that gradually seeps into every corner of social life.
Inequality has left such a deep imprint on health and wellbeing not because it suddenly kills, but because it slowly reshapes how people live, relate, cope, and age β until the damage can no longer be hidden

Tax researcher Richard Murphy has a useful (and punchy) blog here explaining: www.taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2026/01...
Changes to corporate tax transparency regulations that would have required businesses to publish actual information about their activities have been quietly delayed by the government. Not only will this encourage more tax avoidance, it'll also make it much harder to tackle fraud, abuse or crime.
