"How could a life that is threatened at every moment and from every direction be called 'ordinary'?
Ordinary for whom? Ordinary where? If we look around us, which people in our neighboring countries actually have an 'ordinary life?' What things, which people, have taken this ordinary life hostage?"

Organizing in the Heart of Empire
The situation in Iran poses a political challenge for anyone who cares about emancipation. Everyone knows that the single greatest threat to that goal on a global level is the United States and its im...
"point is not that debates do not matter, but that they should be organized around meaningful goals, anchored to specific conjunctures, based in actual terrains of struggle, related to concrete organizing efforts on the ground, and oriented towards building power"

I was born in an Iranian prison. My parents were held in their jails. My uncles lie in their mass graves.
Nothing you can tell me about the crimes of the Iranian regime that I haven't lived in blood and bone.
That doesn't mean I want my people bombed, maimed, killed, their homes in ruins.
If your vision of liberation comes only through the destruction of innocent lives, then it's not freedom you're after.
Sahar Delijani, Iranian author
I am pro Iranian people. I stand with them against their own government’s repression AND against the imperial violence in the form of bombs dropped from the sky from Israel & the US who have already killed hundreds.
I support neither imperialism or dictatorship.

Maybe it’s because I’m a colonial historian but so many of these white nation states seem to behave exactly like they did in the 19th century: ‘your leaders aren’t right for you,’ ‘we’re only killing you/colonizing you/installing puppet leaders for your own good’

Black and white photo of Marjane Satrapi with the quote:
"The world is not divided between East and West. You are American. I am Iranian, we don't know each other, but we talk and we understand each other perfectly. The difference between you and your government is much bigger than the difference between you and me. And the difference between me and my government is much bigger than the difference between me and you.
And our governments are very much the same."
Once again.

Ditto; it was such a fin de siècle zeitgeist thing it’s hard to see the mythology working in these times, but, damn, Danielle Deadwyler is an inspired piece of casting

The UK universities cutting geography have lost their bearings
From climate change to geopolitics, the knowledge, skills and insights of geographers have never been more relevant, say five professors
Our new piece out today in Times Higher Education about the threats to Geography in the UK - particularly fieldwork - please do share. It links to a recent snapshot survey on the challenges being faced in UK HE, which highlights the inequities of the challenges, but also fears of what is yet to come

Photograph of street art in Milan, Italy, that depicts President Donald J Trump wearing a blue suit and a green flag jacket that reads "police ice" on the front of it. Mr. Trump is holding the Olympic rings in his hands and scaling. He appears on a grayish white background with a metal grate on the ground in front of him.

Mills recognized that as the power elite becomes increasingly degenerate, it is increasingly difficult for their intellectual acolytes to formulate reasonable ideological justifications for their corrupt and irresponsible actions. In these circumstances, the power elite resorts to intellectual repression against those who call attention to their declining political capacities; that is, the intelligentsia who work in universities, museums, the arts, scientific institutes, entertainment, and the mass media.
Sociologist C. Wright Mills saw this coming—and tried to warn us—60+ years ago.
