One word solution: relegation. (I get it's not that simple, but this would improve every US sport.)

I just wanted to say that this was a lovely conversation and it made me sign (back) up for your Patreon so that I can go back and listen to all of The eXpat File episodes.
YES for moving off of Substack! Does this also mean Decoding TV has or will move to Ghost or is that harder for you to do? I had to reluctantly end my subscription because I didn't want the money going to Substack, but would re-subscribe if it was on Ghost.

My home screen has changed a lot. I'm now back to using stock icons in their large size with automatic dark mode. I use Ivory for both Mastodon and Blueskyβthe only social media sites I remain active on. And I've switched to Apple Podcasts from Pocket Casts as I move away from Automattic's products.
@dankmccoy.bsky.social @elliottkalan.bsky.social Everything sucks right now, but I want to thank you (and Stu) for The Flop House. Whether it's new episodes, Flop House TV, or randomly listening from the podcast back catalog, it's my go-to for "I just want to feel happy for a little while"
I watched 119 new-to-me movies in 2024, of which Perfect Days was my favorite.

According to Pocket Casts, my top five podcasts of 2024 were dominated by @davechen.bsky.social and The McElroys, who sandwiched my favorite, The Flop House

Yup, that's all correct. It was first released in June 2003, although it was preceded by the PNH Developer Toolbar. I don't know when the first version of that was released though: placenamehere.com/pnhtoolbar/
I generally consider myself an "AI skeptic", but I tried Windsurf last week and was blown away. I used it to help me write a script to automate my end-of-year movie round-up posts since Letterboxd does not provide a public API. The results (and experience) were both impressive and somewhat scary

I changed my avatar background color to purple for Mastodon and blue for Bluesky so that I can more easily tell which account I'm looking at in Ivory
With my blog up and running again, I finally posted about the movies I watched in 2023βjust in time for my 2024 post in a month: https://chrispederick.com/blog/2024/what-movies-i-watched-in-2023/
Last week I launched an update to my site that migrated it from WordPress and custom PHP to Eleventy (and a tiny amount of custom PHP). I think I have all the kinks worked out now and plan to write a few posts about the process and how it's all working

@noahchestnut.bsky.social Saw the highlight video of the shot and immediately thought of you!
Ah, good to know. I have it on my list to setup Umami and compare the two so it gives me some motivation to do so knowing that you prefer it. (Anecdotally most of what I'd seen online comparing the two seemed to lean towards Plausible for minor reasons.)
Have you looked at self-hosted Plausible at all? It's _very_ similar to Umami, and what I'm using on my site.
