which shop?
Can I ask which comic book shop?
So that was nice. I would like Jonathan to expand a little on that backtrack sometime though. And as his wife, he should listen to me.
Oh, then also, he was presenting the Eisners that night and asked if I'd like to be his "wife", as Jane Goldman had no desire to attend as his backstage plus one. So I did, despite protestations of Jackie Estrada that there were no press backstage. She made an exception for me because of Jonathan.
... I ask where on Earth he got such a specific cosplay costume, whether he made it himself, or if it was commissioned. He said, no, he got it from Lawrence Fishburne. It was the actual suit from the actual film, and he was wearing it as cosplay at San Diego Comic-Con.
Okay, here at least is my favourite Wossy moment. Walking up to SDCC along the road, I find myself walking next to him in a full astronaut suit. I introduce myself, and yes, he also knows my writing. He explains that it's the suit worn by the astronauts in Event Horizon....
Yeah, I must have hallucinated it.
I've found the backtrack. Hmm, the apology eludes me, maybe I hallucinated that. x.com/wossy/status...
Is that Shooting Stars?
Actually, that's really incisive.
And it ended his career at the BBC when the Daily Mail noticed.
He did backtrack on the JK Rowling and Linehan stuff and apologise as well. I think he had a chat with his daughters.
f anyone wants, here's the original documentary from 1988, John's Not Mad, when John was 16. Very offensive language, including his utter self-hatred, was watched by tens of millions but led to a much greater understanding in the UK. www.youtube.com/watch?v=wxfJ...
The decision not to edit or mute, even as they already cut a four-hour event to a two-hour TV slot, as they usually do, is utterly inexplicable.
We know he just says the most inappropriate thing at any given time. And his now BAFTA-winning film, I Swear, was the reason he was there, we had all that context. But it was context denied a wider audience.
Many of us have grown up with John Davidson. The documentary John's Not Mad and its follow-ups were watched by tens of millions in the UK, including interviews with his POC friends and others who know he is not racist or bigoted, even as they are the targets for his tics.
