(if you think this is a right answer no it's not)

A fun thing happens when you kill home equity: it changes how you approach renovations. By factoring out resale value, it makes you want to do renovations that improve your quality of life, that feel yours, instead of trying to imagine what will be attractive to a theoretical buyer with no taste.

A friend of mine has a Limited Equity Coop, the kind where they take a huge cut on sale value to reduce speculation. He loves it. By poisoning the resale value it naturally reduces market interest and makes it so it’s only a good investment for real people that want to actually live there.

Oh I used that on an old OnePlus 6 I have lying around last year

Super buggy but really cool, might check it out again

tbh a huge amount of the decisions of atproto seem to be "because it isn't like Mastodon"

It's good to evaluate the things Masto does poorly, but, like

Sacrificing true censorship-resistance so that you get correct like-counts on posts seems, uh. Fucking dumb.

10.03.2026 19:17 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

Like, imo, the ONLY way to do atproto properly, to meet the ideals of the system, is the Red Dwarf approach. Direct PDS-to-PDS comms.

At least as a fallback. I should be able to go on bsky.app and see Link's post because my PDS will query his PDS directly if the heavy metal fails

10.03.2026 19:11 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Actually, a world in which there are 5 full-stack Atproto providers with even usage still doesn't have proper credible exit, since you can still get banned and 20% of atproto can't see you anymore.

It gets better as the number of full-stack providers goes up, but then you're just Mastodon

10.03.2026 19:08 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Imo once Link got straight up nuked, despite being on an indie PDS, the illusion broke for me, and I was already a skeptic

A world in which 99% of the network uses one service defeats the whole point of credible exit imo. May as well just use Mastodon.

Yeah man idk, I run my own PDS on hardware I own and feel zero percent less dependent on Bluesky PBC

I've used all the alternate frontends, appviews, relays, etc. Blacksky is by far the best, but only because they have enough money and talent to run the heavy metal, which is great

worth remembering, David Lynch directed β€œfix your hearts or die” specifically at transphobes. it wasn’t a generic β€œno mean people allowed” statement, it was said by his Twin Peaks character in defense of a trans woman he cared for and deeply respected.

Mamdani Chooses His Words Carefully After Alleged Terror Attack

One day the NYT's editors will read these stories again and be ashamed of themselves. Mamdani called the attack "heinous," "criminal," "reprehensible," "terrorism," and "the antithesis of who we are." The insinuation that he's conflicted about this is disgraceful. www.nytimes.com/2026/03/09/n...

This has the same problem as "I'm just acting like a fascist ironically", imo

You know that, and parts of your audience knows that, but you're also going to attract an audience that isn't in on the joke, and adopts the behavior unironically

This is what you are doing. By pretending anything else you legitimize marketing bullshit that Claude is conscious or should be used to legitimately answer important questions or be considered a source. It also delegitimizes what you have to say to people who understand.

The way the autocomplete machine structures its response is gross. The way it flatters you is dysfunctional and is a warning sign that it should not be trusted. It cannot confirm facts. It repeatedly cites the website of a lobbying group. It cannot even *pick* reliable sources.

10.03.2026 13:45 πŸ‘ 142 πŸ” 13 πŸ’¬ 2 πŸ“Œ 1

Stop doing this. Stop asking Generative AI for its opinion on current events. It cannot have opinions on anything. bsky.app/profile/chro...

10.03.2026 13:39 πŸ‘ 425 πŸ” 60 πŸ’¬ 3 πŸ“Œ 1

Claude cannot actually feel, it can't think, it doesn't have opinions, it isn't self aware, it doesn't have context outside the immediate window you are using it with. By asking for its comment on war crimes you are legitimizing the idea that it can be used autonomously or for war at all. Stop it.

Soldier low key the weirdest job because in most respects its no different than being any other kind of flunky for a large organization except occasionally you have to kill people because the host of Celebrity Apprentice got bored.

It has never been more obvious that this country is going through death spasms because half of the white supremacist vanguard are dying pensioners who never forgave desegregation.

Like, to me, making something with Claude isn't making something, insofar as it skips all the parts of making something that I'm interested in.

The better the tool gets, the less interested in it I am, really. Eventually it's just asking somebody else to make something for you

08.03.2026 16:19 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

I know it may sound like I'm making value judgements, but I'm really not; I just fundamentally don't understand the latter type, so I have to talk about it as other.

I would personally never copy code from Stack Overflow, because, like, why would I? That misses the entire point of making to me.

08.03.2026 16:19 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

On the other hand, there are people who primarily want to make things; understanding is secondary, and in service of things getting made.

Claude seems really great for this second type of person.

08.03.2026 16:19 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

These aren't mutually exclusive, but I'd call them the "make thing" and "understand thing" motives.

I personally don't really care if I make things, intrinsically. I make things in order to understand new things, or understand things better.

Like making things is fun, but it's not why I'm here

08.03.2026 16:19 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

I don't actually care if people use Claude tbh

I think it just emphasizes a pre-existing distinction that's always existed between different types of people, and that distinction is probably going to have to be codified in rolls more explicitly than it is now

we bag on the boomers a lot, but they dealt with their mid-life crisis in a good and normal way (buying a red sports car and having an affair with their secretary) whereas Gen X is all "maybe this next genocide will finally make them bring back the square spongebread cafeteria pizza"
