We saw the trailer for that in the theater and it was pretty brutal. Weird choice to run before a kpop concert documentary. Too frightening for the littler fans who were there, and hella dark for the loud, cheerful, emotional concert of young Korean men telling us all to be ourselves.

like we normalize severe insecurity like its not something you need to log off and take drastic measures to treat like you would with any physical health issue. and if someone’s too fogged up to see it, we as their friends should at least stop enabling it. both you and them deserve better

I've also grown exhausted with people joking about their art sucking, too, because the "joke" is so often just a shield around the bad coping mechanism. I'd rather we talked about your insecurities than had to pretend they were funny.

Then, later? We can laugh about it.

For those going to @netrootsnation.bsky.social this year, Na Eng invited me to share some of the resources and examples we've been gathering as part of this @peoplefor.bsky.social training submission. #NN26

For the two or three of you who know me from when you were in undergrad and are wondering if I mean that English prof? Yeah. I do. He was gross. I hope he's at peace but he was gross.

Just found out I have outlived someone I once hoped would die in a fire. I actually hope his long illness didn't cause too much suffering, and I'm sure his loved ones miss him, but I won't. Sorry to you Milton scholars but he was an asshole to me both personally and professionally.

I realize that this sort of complaint about what goes on in the classroom can be easily weaponized against women and queers and minorities as well, but oh, the English teacher who was shitty and was kind of baited into saying slurs he was alluding to, in class, DESERVED it so richly.

I was so fortunate to work for a historic women's college that became trans-inclusive during my time there, because by about 2011, our students would have reported his ass and, even if consequences didn't stick, managed to make it so that wasn't _worth it_ anymore.

I'm so glad you did that. I do realize that the times I argued with assholes in training probably did _other_ people good, too. My sense that it was wasted time comes from, in most cases, wishing I'd stopped earlier.

They still are. I know that university is really important as a time when kids flirting with this kind of assholery can be challenged by their teachers and peers. I still feel like I wasted a lot of effort arguing with people who were always committed to being the asshole, under whatever cover.

We're all enslaved but have keys to our own freedom, if only we will use them, and that resonates even more for me now that I am building a freelance career.

Somehow, I hadn't told my therapist that I write erotica, original or fanworks, until today. If I alluded to it, he didn't pick up on it.

I gave him a brief history of fans writing what if those dudes kiss, going back to Holmes and Watson, today. It felt odd, but awesome.

Yeah. Six years later my mom became the 7-8 social studies teacher and ran National Honor Society and English Festival activities for years after, and it was exhausting but she was soo good at it, she had the gift for 12-14s and could have handled 10-11s.

That principal retired AND the school was split into 7-8 moving to be junior high at the high school, and 5-6 staying to be the new upper elementary along with 3-4, when we graduated 8th grade. This art teacher started teaching 3-6 after our year. So they shook it up after that.

So many adults sucked. I don't know what the hell was going on with that middle school but it must have been toxic as hell.

Yeah, and this was after my mother asked for me to be allowed to drop. But my mom was a substitute teacher and didn't want to stop getting calls from them for sub days, for being difficult. Which was a shitty dynamic for me all through middle school.

She said the color was patriotic blue and I was like you're going to flunk someone ELSE on a project because I mistook a deep blue for a purple in the dim light of our office supply closet? Let him do it over. I tried to drop this class and the principal said no because it would be bad for morale.

12.03.2026 03:02 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 3 📌 0

The blue&purples are horrible and I got blamed for someone else doing an art project with the wrong colors in 8th grade because I helped a guy get construction paper during my office aide shift and it was not, my teacher said, actually a purple. (She was horrible)

Well, that's a good point. This is just reminding me of a certain cartoon where a certain famous orchestra was playing a battle of the bands against a high school band and the orchestra bus pulled in to them singing "99 bottles of Chardonnay on the wall" or something like that.

Because yeah.
