The “would you still love me if I was a worm” to “babe, don’t worry it’s not a worm” pipeline
The “would you still love me if I was a worm” to “babe, don’t worry it’s not a worm” pipeline
Shouldn’t he be wearing briefs?
If this is is “like living in hell” I am even more confused about religious people’s choices
The City of Portland put out a press release last night asking portlanders not to take the bait. If only we were that disciplined
www.portland.gov/hello/news/2...
Deep blue city with left-leaning city council, fairly blue state with supermajority representation, not a major economic contributor on a national scale like ca, ny, or wa. Plus Fox has been painting us as war ravaged for the last 5+ years, exaggerating the real unsheltered homelessness problem.
If you’re an autocrat looking for a domestic manufactured menace to justify escalation or make an example of, Portland is a great choice because the protest culture here is well established (“Little Beirut”) and our current electeds are unlikely to have Newsom level opposition
I'd just like to observe that serious minds are focused on a powerful weapon being forged from an exotic metal in large caverns in the heart of a mountain. If that's not dwarf-coded I don't know what is
Protestors neatly queueing for a single portable toilet under a bridge
Portland protests upholding their anarchic reputation
Apparently nyc, eastmoreland and dc? I had no idea his wife co-owns the venerable strand bookstore in nyc but makes sense they’d have a place there
That’s fair, but Wyden probably shouldn’t be on there either in that case?
Is the governor so underwater she’s not even a consideration?
The details of this are wild. hashing passwords on the client side, plaintext on a server that should have been blind to the contents, development vm dump endpoint unprotected to the internet
As someone that frequently emits all three of those, any of these heuristics reflects concerningly on my true nature
I don't know a lot of #rust folks on here, but I have a new crate to announce: github.com/jbr/fieldwork is an expressive and configurable proc-macro for struct accessor generation (getters and setters) #rustlang
To the extent that coyote body language is similar to that of domesticated dogs, “romping” is the only word I could use to describe how it was running, especially when I caught up. It seemed playful
Yeah. It ran for like two miles “with” me — running out ahead and waiting for me to catch up. I think it decided I was safe. Flattering, but probably not great for it as a wild animal
I had a similar close encounter last month in forest park but it didn’t take the hint when I told it to move along. Similar distance, 15-20’. Followed me for a while previous to this and again after. Made a friend!
Also the use of Pakistan’s tactical nuclear weapons are reportedly delegated to field command in wartime, which is a much lower barrier than Modi choosing to contradict India’s NFU policy
It’s happily unlikely in any circumstance, but having a NFU policy at least declares an intention (as does the absence of one)
Press coverage of the Pakistan-India conflict consistently mentions that both are nuclear-armed, but it seems even more important that Pakistan does *not* have a no-first-use policy. Their nuclear doctrine permits the use of nuclear arms in the context of a large-scale conventional conflict
Fully expected a “have you said thank you once” in the section about the free market
Let people have fun
Would be absolutely wild if they didn't use some sort of private usg vpn, but I guess no more wild than the rest of this security malpractice
How does FOIA work for presidents that have non consecutive terms? Are trump-45 presidential records available for request this year or do we have to wait until 2034 for both terms? (assuming the federal government is vaguely intact)
Another benefit is that it’s a closed system as I understand it, assuming they also run a private signal server fork? That would preclude accidental “jg” invites?
Whether or not they actually care about compliance with presidential/federal records acts, using this product at least gives them a plausible response if congress or the courts started asking about how the use of signal even *possibly* complied. Why wouldn’t that be the default assumption?
Here’s a bald eagle I saw tonight
If the executive wields pardon power and/or presidential immunity to shield the entire executive branch from judicial review and subsequent contempt, is that effectively an entirely-legal coup if congress doesn't intercede?
I think there's also a frustration with the degree to which Portland has felt vaguely lawless for a bunch of years. PPB/PPA aren't running a great achievement-based fundraising campaign
