It's a small thing to do to put a smile on the face of a child.
#MakeEveryDayValentinesDay
This Valentine's Day over 600 people — veterans, grandmas, parents, kids — told immigrant children held in Dilley Texas they are not forgotten.
Dilley was made famous by a photo of a little boy in a bunny hat who got to go home. But hundreds more desperate children remain locked up and invisible.
In a place that can feel forgotten, these letters say:
You are seen. You matter. You are not alone.
Read the valentines sent to children detained in Dilley — and share them with someone you love. www.childrensrights.org/letterstodil...
"The world is brighter because you are in it."
"El mundo es más brillante porque tú estás en él".
“Even though I don’t know you, I’m sending you a warm hug because I care about you. I’m praying that you get out of there. It makes me very sad that you’re there.”
"Aunque no te conozco, te envío un abrazo cariñoso porque me importas. Rezo para que salgas de ahí. Me entristece mucho que estés ahí”.
"Dear brave one, we have not forgotten you."
“Querido valiente, no te hemos olvidado”
From abuelas and parents and their kids to teachers and veterans—hundreds of people across the U.S. sent valentines, drawings, and handwritten messages to children detained in Dilley, Texas.
Grateful to Anabella González at @cnn.com Español for helping spread the love. 💌
Thank you for sharing, and for refusing to let these families be forgotten.
New campaign from @childrens-rights.bsky.social will let people send encouraging messages to immigrant families at the Dilley detention center:

As the govt incarcerates increasing numbers of children and families, amicus briefs have been filed in support of the Flores Settlement, which sets minimum standards for the humane treatment, placement, and release of detained immigrant children.
Valentine’s Day is about love in all its forms. Your words and your children’s drawings can bring them hope.

They haven’t been forgotten. Let's show them.
While kids across the country exchange valentines this week, hundreds of children at Dilley remain in conditions that no child should endure.
1/ ProPublica collected handwritten letters in mid-January from children held at the Dilley Immigration Processing Center, the same facility where 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos was taken.
Hundreds of kids are still detained.
We’ll let the children’s words speak for themselves. 🧵
This morning, @propublica.org released letters and drawings from children imprisoned at Dilley. Handwritten. In their own words.
Swipe to read their stories. These are the children we're fighting for.

It wasn't. It was a 5-year-old actor, Lincoln Fox. But the instant recognition of Liam Conejo Ramos's name—a child who was recently released from the Texas Dilley facility—shows something powerful: we're paying attention.
When Bad Bunny handed his Grammy to a young boy last night, social media erupted: "Is that Liam??"
Without these safeguards, children face the risk of mass, indefinite imprisonment in dangerous facilities. We need it now, more than ever. #ProtectFlores

The government is attempting to eliminate the most basic protections for immigrant children.
@supportkind.org, Public Counsel, and @theyoungcenter.bsky.social filed an amicus brief in support of Flores: "The loss of fundamental safeguards would jeopardize children’s safety and well-being during their time in government custody and beyond."
Immigration lawyers, law professors, scholars, and former judges filed a brief in support of Flores: "...[Flores] provides a crucial safeguard that...should prevent children from being subject to indefinite detention during the pendency of their immigration court proceedings."
@hrw.org filed an amicus brief in support of Flores: "...the U.N. special rapporteur on torture has concluded that immigration detention of children puts them at risk of cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment or punishment."
The @ameracadpeds.bsky.social and orgs dedicated to children’s well-being filed an amicus brief in support of Flores: "Studies of detained immigrants found negative physical and emotional symptoms among detained children, including anxiety, depression, and posttraumatic stress disorder..."
@raicestexas.bsky.social filed an amicus brief in support of Flores: "...recent developments indicate that the Government’s violations [of Flores] are escalating and increasing in frequency... " such as deplorable medical care for families in Dilley, on at least 700 occasions since August, 2025.
20 State Attorneys General's Offices filed an amicus brief in support of Flores: "Maintaining the agreement is critical for protecting Amici States' ability to act in support of the rights and well-being of its child residents."
26 US Senators filed a brief in support of Flores: “The [One Big Beautiful Bill] Act’s detention-related provisions appropriated funds for detention capacity...but could not and did not override the Flores Settlement Agreement’s requirements for how detention must be conducted.”
Urgency grows as hundreds of children languish in immigration detention—sick, scared, and depressed.
A judge’s order last weekend sent Liam Conejo Ramos back home to Minneapolis. But so many others remain jailed. Leaders nationwide are speaking out to defend a critical legal safeguard. ⬇️
Grateful to have US Senators, State Attorneys General's Offices, and 180+ youth and immigration organizations and experts file amicus briefs in support of the Flores Settlement Agreement.
Flores is a foundational legal safeguard for immigrant children detained in federal custody.
While ICE is arresting, imprisoning, & abusing our children, Trump is seeking to eliminate necessary transparency & protections in the dark places that jail them.
Flores is more necessary than ever. Join our fight to safeguard it.
