I’m looking to present at the Louisiana Historical Association in 2026. Anyone need a panelist about French Empire, memory, Indigenous people, and the greater Louisiana Territory?

I’ve noticed that they’re socialists! I was reading a document earlier about the Compagnie générale de colonisation’s argument for settling Texas in the 1840s and I think it’s fascinating when you put it in context with Champ d’Asile from the 1810s
I’ve noticed a trend in the 1800s where French people will go to the US (mostly Texas) attempt to establish a colony then bounce to Algeria. Does anyone have any ideas as to why? I just noticed it today…
My poor landlord. I keep texting him how do I turn on the stove, how to do I use the washer machine, does the phone work. I almost texted asking where a light switch was for a room but I found it behind a curtain. I promise I’m smart…
FYI, monuments aren’t history - they’re historiography.
As me & @lollardfish.bsky.social wrote: “The erection of monuments is about creating a moral consensus of interpretation, a place where people who visit “remember” the memories of other people.”

I’m getting closer to my move to Toulouse! What’s some fiction books I should read while I’m abroad/on the plane?
Please circulate: CFP for Western History Dissertation Workshop. This is an exceptional chance for advanced grad students working on a western history topic to get feedback from leading scholars in the field and to do it in the Arcadian paradise that is the Huntington Library.
