I swear if I see one more post/tiktok/whatever of someone complaining their vacation got canceled because of a literal war in which a lot of innocent people are going to die I’ll go to their houses and shove their phones down their throats so they’ll think twice next time before being as***** online

I stayed at the Ibis Budget London Barking with some friends. The Uber to the con was about 6£ each, but there was a metro station nearby (a 10 minute walk), and there was also a Tesco in the same street, so we saved a lot of money on food.

To be honest, no. I wait until companies send me art supplies to test xD I don’t like spending money on things I’m not sure I’ll like or use.

But for sure those look interesting.

It’s kind of funny that people always see me as a hardworking person when I’m basically a potato. I try to work as little as possible, so I’m always looking for shortcuts to finish faster and get back to doing nothing.

I really like this box because it has a lot of greys. I know many artists are against using grey, but for me, they’re useful as a base, to tone down other colors and add depth.

Going back to markers because sometimes I’m too lazy to use watercolors and these are faster for sketching and doing studies

And yep, cons are really important for showing your art to new people, meeting other artists and potential clients and things like that.

But please, don’t make them your only source of income. Diversify. Work on side projects, your portfolio, anything you enjoy, so you always have other options.

I won’t lie I usually make crazy amounts of money at each convention. But, as I said, this is not the norm.

One of the best decisions of my life was focusing on my shop and practicing and studying to improve my portfolio.

If I don’t get into cons I’m fine because I still have a steady income.

I get why conventions and artist alleys are somewhat glorified. When you start your career as an artist, you hear stories about people making thousands of euros in one weekend, and some people can make that, but as I said, that’s not the norm.

Usually people barely cover the costs.

Yep, you can make a lot of money at conventions but that’s the exception not the rule.

I know a lot of artists who focused on cons only to later not get accepted into any for years. They struggled financially because they didn’t have any other source of income or a portfolio to apply for jobs.

Maybe this is an unpopular opinion but please please don’t rely only on conventions to make a living as an artist.

Conventions aren’t reliable, you might get into a ton one year and then none the next.

Try to focus on other things too: your portfolio, take commissions, diversify your income, etc
