I love that I'm getting to the point in #Godot where I understand project structure. Modularity and script inheritance are such a strong and clean process.

The simplest of those solutions is probably limited choice. Present a player with 3 options and let them choose with maybe one opportunity to refresh their choices. Keep player agency while introducing variety. Rewards and punishments often end up requiring more balance tweaks to account for them.
It's been one week since Click the Shape launched! It's still only $0.80 during the launch sale! Check your couch for some change to justify the purchase! #indiegame #indiedev #solodev #gamedev #Steam #Godot store.steampowered.com/app/3847650/...
My body is a machine that turns SHAPES into CLICKED SHAPES. You too can become this machine if you play my new game, CLICK THE SHAPE! #indiegame #indiedev #solodev #gamedev #Steam #Godot store.steampowered.com/app/3847650/...

Officially have my Steamworks account approved! Excited to get into the weeds of setting up everything for Click The Shape! #indiedev #indiegame #Steam #gamedev
Thanks to those who played my game! I see some of you on the leaderboards! Extra thanks to my friends who immediately got competitive and crushed the Quick preset scores lol. I couldn't even hold first place in my own game!
Hello! I just added global leaderboards to my arcade game Click the Shape. Please give it a shot to help me add more leaderboard entries! It would be greatly appreciated, and I'd love to see some competition amongst players. iron-rhino-games.itch.io/click-the-sh... #gamedev #solodev #webgame #godot

ONLINE LEADERBOARDS! You can now compete with others globally! #gamedev #solodev #godot #indiegame #webgame

Added music and the settings to turn it off if you don't like it! I think it works pretty well with this simple shape-clicking game. #gamedev#solodev #godot #indiegame #webgame

I pretty immediately needed to fix a lag issue specifically with the web version of Click The Shape. I was creating too many objects at once at level start, but storing previously created shapes was my solution! #gamedev #solodev #godot
I wrote a little devlog for the release and I plan to continue to work on the project until I consider it properly finished. This means stuff like real settings and online leaderboards on the horizon! #gamedev #solodev #godot

I have uploaded my mini-game project, Click The Shape, to itch io! See how fast you can click the shape in the Quick mode or use your eagle eyes to spot the stealthier shape in Detective mode! #gamedev #solodev #godot
You can play it for free here! iron-rhino-games.itch.io/click-the-sh...
Title screen of my current Godot project, Click the Shape. The main logo is in the center of the screen with a "Press Enter" bar underneath. The background is 150 basic shapes of different colors that move in all directions.
Been absent from the social media sector because I've been hyper-fixated on learning Godot. Now I have a simple game that's pretty close to being done! It's not the most inventive idea, but simple arcade games need some love too! #gamedev #solodev #godot
Sometimes my little game dev brain can actually conjure up some ok art. I just can't execute at the same level as a professional artist. #gamedev #cardgame #gameart #art
My poor rendition of a net cannon capturing a drone versus and expert rendition of my concept.
Hope everyone is having a great holiday season! Here's a little art comparison to show people that Collective Target is still making progress!
Reference collage of robotic tripods on the left and a full artist rendering of a robotic "tripod" climbing a mountain with soldiers on the right.
Even when I don't attempt to draw something myself, I at minimum create a little storyboard to help convey the type of image I'm picturing including a text description. I definitely stay on top of gathering reference materials for everything.
A game dev versus artist comparison of the slime card from Collective Target. The game dev one is hilariously bad.
Another Game Dev vs Professional Artist comparison for you! I did my best, ok? I just can't compare to those fancy transparency layers.
Having a day where my brain is buzzing thinking about way too many projects. Really trying to keep myself focused on one project, but I'm being tempted again.
Spent all day yesterday trying my best with graphic design to really bring my rule booklet to a best spot. It's an uphill battle, but I'm seeing results and that makes me happy!
I've recently joined the tabletop-focused @breakmygame.com discord and it's already been a great resource for me. Being able to study people's games in different stages of development and read their rulebooks have helped me refine mine. Also, playtesting new game concepts is very fun. Recommended!
This is awesome! Would love to be a part of it if you're still adding people!
Split image: left is dev art of a laser gun shooting a trash can; right is professional art of a laser gun being using in a heist to open a bank vault
Another game dev art vs professional art where my artist, Ross, absolutely crushes this card art of the Neodymium Utility Laser! #gameart #cardart #cardgame #illustration
Oh yeah, definitely good to experiment early! My advice is mainly for the tuning phase once you have your core mechanics decided on.
Absolutely. Having a control variable is so important.
1. Game Designer
2. When prototyping, I start simple and build up the game mechanics slowly.
3. Changing only one mechanic at a time in-between playtesting makes understanding the effects of your changes much easier. Altering too much at once makes good game balance way harder to achieve.
Since Collective Target is a physical card game, it's obvious for the game itself to be a reward and a holographic version might be really cool as a higher tier. Art is a big focus in the game, so I want to put it on posters, t-shirts, mousepads, stickers, etc. Does that interest others though?
