When it's time to vote in Germany, we just get a letter from the local county/city government. To vote by mail, you can just scan a QR code to request the paperwork including a stamped envelope. When voting in person you just need your ID card and/or the letter you got initially.
As someone who doesn't live in the US, it seems odd to me that you have to register to vote. I think removing as many barriers to voting as possible would be much more effective than forcing people to vote.
