I finally read "I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream" (after not realizing it was a short story for ages) and wow.
This and "The Jaunt" are now both among my favorite short form sci-fi horror stories.

I set it for 4 minutes

Oh yikes, that's spooky. I hope you recover quickly, Nano!
THERE'S A DEDICATED MYTHBUSTERS CHANNEL ON MY TV??
the party that wants to require ID to vote abruptly invalidating a thousand peopleβs IDs overnight seems like a pretty giant flashing red light
"The Corporations don't intrinsically have souls, but they've got rights. The only corpo that contained a soul was Costco - the only one born with a soul. The Chamber of Commerce was empty, you see. These things are just vessels. That's why I'm going to destroy them. Because I hate them."
ah rip, but that's still pretty cool
I'm so tempted to do the same but I already have a full size treadmill so it's harder to justify getting another one :/
Also, make sure you check out @duinrahaic.app's walkies group and their FitOSC software to control your treadmill from in vrc!
the real boss of risk of rain 2 isn't any of the enemies, but rather your computer hardware
being able to schedule emails is a godsend when trying to appear like a normal human (I say as I post this at 4 am)
The creator of Nearby Glasses made the app after reading 404 Media's coverage of how people are using Meta's Ray-Bans smartglasses to film people without their knowledge or consent. @evystadium.bsky.social has more.

The wizard ponders his orb.

wow, I can't believe I just found a <marquee> tag in the wild in $current_year
I loved it in the first season and the second season is just as good, if not even better
I'm absolutely in love with all the care and thought that get put into Frieren's animation. It's such a wonderful series and the animators did a fantastic job
Eventually, I want to get a Steam Deck with an additional screen mounted above it so I can emulate my copy of PokΓ©mon Platinum in a more authentic form factor. My DSi is feeling its age ;-;
Big thanks to @techconnectify.bsky.social for pushing his furnace video into my feed years ago so I could diagnose and fix my furnace without needing a service call β€οΈ
I just had to clean the carbon buildup off my flame sensor and now it's operational again :nodders:

who needs a furnace in the dead of winter anyways? I'll just join a public vrchat instance with all avatars shown and be fine
well i for one couldnβt be more excited for the possibilities of AI. finally a technology that answers the age old question βwhat if clippy was wormtongueβ
it's hard not to think about how 5 or 10 years from now, the shooters (and games writ large) we'll be reverently talking about will still be the same ones we talk about now (DOOM 2016, Titanfall 2, etc) because there is no money going around to make new ones of those happen. we are in purgatory.
The AI features added to Notepad created a critical exploit vulnerable to loading a compromised txt file.
The fix is part of Patch Tuesday, so update your systems.
AI is not a feature I ever desired in Notepad. I should look into some alternatives...
Seeing the Ring cameras being *advertised* as mass surveillance is wild to me. Manufacturing consent for it is crazy when we already have so many other forms of mass surveillance that aren't opt-in.
...and then yesterday I noticed a new Flock camera has been put up just down the street.
A yellow "caution wet floor" standee. The bottom is flared so it looks like a banana peel.
Standee, deployed
This object is a legitimate masterpiece of design
I'm convinced AI is our generation's radium - a discovery with genuinely useful applications in specific, controlled circumstances that we stupidly put in everything from kid's toys to toothpaste until we realised the harm far too late where future generations will ask if we were out of our minds.
