But it's not a situation where we'd just need a bunch of additional code / work on the server and then it's magically going to work.

It depends. Connecting to a custom server through DNS isn't something Nintendo intended, so it relies on a bug in the Wii OS that makes this work. So someone would need to find a similar bug that also works with newer games, but it's unlikely that someone will spend time on that for uncommon games.
Then it's likely that our first assumption way wrong and the game may not be compatible with this method and you'll have to use another method to connect this game to Wiimmfi.
We'll be performing maintenance on Wiimmfi between September 22nd and September 28th. Wiimmfi may not always be available during this week, and you may encounter more disconnects or connection issues than usual.
Can you successfully connect to Wiimmfi using the DNS with another game? If so, it might just not be compatible. Or are you running into these issues with all games?
Hi Colin, sorry for the late answer. I do not know if Sonic Riders supports the hackless DNS method to connect to Wiimmfi. We have no way to 100% confirm this unless someone tells us "Yes, this game works with the DNS". On the server side, we can't distinguish between the different patchers.
Wiimmfi is available again for now, but we'll need to perform some more maintenance in the near future. We will announce the times for these here on Bsky and on the Wiimmfi website as soon as we know when that'll occur.
Right now there's issues with the PHP installation on the Wiimmfi server; so Wiimmfi and the WHB forums will unfortunately be unavailable until we can get this fixed. Right now we estimate that this will take at least until June 9th. Sorry for the long downtime.
(Hooray, first BlueSky post) - We'll be doing some maintenance on the Wiimmfi server on January 21st starting at 14:00 UTC. If you're already connected you should be able to continue playing, but new connections to Wiimmfi may experience error codes and the website may not always be available.
