She was hospitalized with seizures?? This poor woman was being tortured by the sadists who work for the DHS. This is cruel and unusual punishment and the perpetrators deserve life in prison.
Do you remember how Otto was returned from North Korea? How different are we from that?

Why Has This Columbia University Protester Been in ICE Detention for Nearly a Year?
Leqaa Kordia's family worries about her health after she was briefly hospitalized last week. DHS refused to give them information about her condition and she is still 'very sick.'
BREAKING: Exactly one year since she was detained, an immigration judge has just ordered the release of Leqaa Kordia — the last Columbia protestor still in ICE detention.
DHS has kept her, despite a magistrate judge recommending her release and an immigration judge already *twice* ordering so.

And look, maybe we will find a new model for intelligence that can supersede LLMs—maybe it’s an analog computer that perfectly simulates a human brain or whatever.
If that happens, then we’ll all become plumbers, but for now, I just have a feeling we’ll be alright until 2028. Cheers to the bubble!

I really don’t think AI is going to kill the entire “intelligence” job sector—you can’t build a successful company from dumb people generating millions of lines of code and art. They will need to hire white collar workers to do the boring and hard stuff. They’ll run out of patience babysitting LLMs.

Like, I’m really sorry to say, but all the really smart, business savvy people have already left to make their own scrappy thing or retired. All the rest of us white collars stuck around because we’re just smart enough to enjoy our cushy jobs and need the healthcare.

If I can throw my (cynical) hat into the ring, I just think that LLMs and the people who run companies are just far too stupid to replace white collar workers.
No way are they going to be able to command a fleet of AI to completely automate us. They’ll certainly try, and then it will fail—S-curve.

Will AI Destroy the Economy? (According to Economists: No.) | AI Reality Check | Cal Newport
YouTube video by Cal Newport
I really like this healthy dose of AI skepticism from @author-calnewport.bsky.social about economic doomerism regarding AI.
youtu.be/YevENe3iNUc
I really like the point about the economic S-curve model of adoption; right now we’re on the acceleration phase, but eventually AI adoption will plateau.

For scale, 800,000 people would be the population of Seattle. That’s how many people are displaced.

My guess is, at this point, you can wait for a class action lawsuit to roll into discovery and they’ll have to reach out to all the potential litigants anyway ahah.
(I don’t know of any btw, I’m just watching the shit show🍿)

This is so so upsetting. So Grammerly is violating the memory of bell hooks AND making AI versions of the rest of us before we're even dead. Someone tell me who to sue, not even joking.

TIL! macsecurity.net/view/671-med...
I feel like there should be a button for stuff like this, to turn off all the junk and provide an explicit allowlist for processes that can eat up CPU time.
Unfortunately, designing macOS for hardware longevity is not part of Apple’s business plan.

Estimated cost of Trump's war: $1 billion PER DAY.
That's enough to pay for
- Medicaid for all 16 million people losing it because of Republican budget cuts
- AND daily food stamps for all 41 million people who rely on them
Imagine if we had a government put people over profit.

Ramadan Revolved Around My Grandma. Bombs Took Her House. Famine Took Her Life.
Israel’s genocide in Gaza cut off my grandmother’s access to the nutrients and medications she needed to survive.
This is the first Ramadan when my grandmother's chair is empty because she was martyred during the famine, when medicine became a wish and bread became almost impossible to find.

So many interpretations:
- A SWE keeping up with the times (with a book that will be obsolete yesterday)
- A techie book club participant, taking notes on discussion topics
- A PM, UX designer, or manager looking into rapid prototyping tools
- A budding entrepreneur getting ready to go solo

It’s very risky for the biscy for them to do that, given that you can say whatever you want in reply to that post to refute or qualify whatever claim they are trying to make.

remember when the IRS put out a a free online tax filing system where you could just do your taxes through the IRS and it was actually well made and was pretty well recieved and then the tax filing industry and Republicans killed it and now you have to use TurboTax again

And I get it - I'm a Middle Eastern/Arab kid, we're being scapegoated by billionaires for the entire worlds ills while being bombarded in like a dozen countries at once. I get falling in line because you're scared but that's how fascism wins. If you allow others to be hurt, it'll come for you.

I’m thinking Kim Stanley Robinson meets Cory Doctorow—it’s part, “how do we very quickly rebuild transportation capacity without paved roads (plus it’s very comfy to walk on!),” and part “how do fossil fuel capitalists throw money into corrupting society when the writing is on the wall.”

This reminds me of a Kim Stanley Robinson-esque sci-fi story concept/IRL fantasy I had, where a moss naturally (or is bioengineered to?) evolve to colonize asphalt, and due to its prevalence, threatens to render all roads to mush in a few years and forces society’s hand on de-car-bonizing.

My hope is that, perhaps, we can make peace with Iran by pleading insanity.
Also I want to remind everyone that Islam has Dajjal prophecies too, but we’re not TRYING TO ACCELERATE IT HAPPENING?! It’s a terrifying time and we don’t want that.
If America wants to end the world, I’m not taking part.
