Finally, with regards to basic features:
1) Twitter didn't ship with these "basics" and they were added over time (16 years for an edit button!)
2) not everyone wants the same thing (I don't care for edits, personally)
3) there is protocol work that blocks some things
Code is only one bit!

Even so, I don't feel like this site faces as many issues as people make it seem, especially compared to other sites. Unfortunately, while I would like to do a more rigorous comparison it does seem like status.bsky.app doesn't list all issues, only the PDSs.

With regards to "breaking all the time," they have a product that is pushing a different technical angle than most other sites and are doing it with a small team. I think living on the edge like that means you can expect some bumps in the road and they've been *very* transparent about that.

With all sincerity, I think you have a point but are missing the mark. Paul and others are asserting that LLMs are good tools but still require care and consideration to use effectively and safely; they aren't maximalist vibecoders.
So "this AI assistance" is simply good enough to move the needle.

I get that consoles want to prevent save sharing (i.e. pulling a 100% save from NexusMods) but the value proposition is way out of whack from the user's pov.
Why do I care if someone cheated their achievements or single player content? The inconvenience of not having portable saves outweighs that.

I wish that savefiles were portable across platforms. It's a bit ridiculous to me that I can't take the RE3make save from my PS5 and just pull it onto my Steam Deck to continue from there.
The game data should be the same for serde purposes and any platform specific stuff could just "ride" along.

I am always impressed by the sheer number of people using this primarily text-based app who demonstrably cannot read.

I've completed it and honestly I think it merits a more honest playthrough, though some sections are so brutal I can't understand how you could do it without the bonuses.
I still think they should've changed more though.

Tried Insanity mode in RE9 and cleared up to basement. There are some fun, significant changes that left me pleasantly surprised. I know it's a bit greedy, but I do wish they gave us *more*. The further I go the more I wish things were radically shifted around, remix the whole thing!

I haven't played ER on the Steam Deck, but I've done ~150 hours of Nightreign on it. Runs well enough but my only gripe is that it can't really hit 60fps without serious downgrades in visual quality + the fps varies a ton. I ended up locking to 30fps and have been happy enough.
Does ER fare better?

What's scary about this story is the surveillance it hints at. This trans woman had changed her name, legally, but chose not to change her gender marker. She was apparently flagged in the DMV system as trans and her license was invalidated under a law that supposedly only concerned gender markers.

Now I'm curious how the other RE Engine games play on the Steam Deck... might be a good excuse to revisit them...

Compare this to SHf where I had everything turned down to like PS2 graphics and also it limited to 30fps, but still had issues maintaining framerate. I accepted it because, well, I'm playing on an SD, it'd be unreasonable to expect anything else...
... until RE9 showed up and flexed the RE engine.

Of course, some individual settings will need to be tuned and I did experience some slowdown in the first section for both Leon and Grace, but overall it was stable. Do be warned that if you push the limit for graphics a bit you will experience occasional frame hitches, but it's mostly fine.

Another positive thing to say about RE9: it actually works AMAZING on the Steam Deck. I was completely caught off guard since you're not forced to limit yourself to 30fps or make the game look like shit to get it running well.
I did all my runs on the SD w/ full resolution, 60fps, and med graphics.

One thing being sick has done for me is ruining my sleep schedule, which I'll need to fix... I say as I post about RE9 at 6AM.

... and that's all off the top of the dome. I'm sure I'll think of more after reflecting a bit, but these are all things that make me not want to do another "serious" run.
Reading all that again, it sounds super negative and comes off like I hated the game or it sucks ass, but I think it's good!

- there is what I can only describe as an MGS4 microwave hallway where you have to slow walk to a goal and it's annoying on run 2
- the different guns give *some* replay value but there isn't anything unique like a minethrower or sparkshot
- there is a minor slow thing before the final boss

- all bosses are very easy, especially after you've seen them once
- there is a mid-game Leon section which is fun the first time around, cool the second, and a bit of a chore after that
- there is a Sherry/Ada/Ashley-style section like the other games, but its probably the worst one so far

Initial thoughts are:
- the intro section, before Grace and Leon gameplay really starts, is really slow and boring after your first run
- there are some finicky, probably RNG-based interactions which lose you time or force you to take damage to keep a good pace
- there are really only 2 fun bosses

But I feel like I'm pretty much done with RE9. I will probably play through Insanity, maybe with infinite ammo on, and then put it down for a long while.
It's not a bad game, not by a long shot. I liked it a lot and would rank it high in the series. It just doesn't really have staying power for me.

RE2make and RE3make I had endless fun optimizing and getting good ranks/times. Even RE2make, where you have two campaigns running through the same game, I was happy doing multiple back to back runs.
RE4make I only did 2 or 3 runs I think, but I probably could've done more if life didn't happen.

So I did the cheap thing and did a 4h speedrun w/ no healing + no blood collection on casual for RE9. As my 3rd[0] runthrough, I was pretty used to the game and had routes already figured out, so it went well... but it didn't feel as fun.
[0]: run 1 on modern and run 2 a speedrun attempt on classic

Yeah, definitely more of an "in an ideal world" sort of solution that requires a lot of coordination. On the bright side, the ecosystem is still young and can facilitate changes like this compared to something like, say, HTTP where things are waaaaay more entrenched and harder to move the needle.

e.g.
GET /xrpc/com.atproto.lexicon.satisfiesGeneric
Takes in nsid for the generic and a handle for the user
Returns the full list of resolved records that satisfy the generic or perhaps just the nsids of those records' lexicons.

My thought was that this could be paired with an xrpc operation against the PDS where you request "for this user, give me their records that satisfy com.foo.generic" or whatever. This would help with things like building "import profile from X, Y, or Z" as you'd get all records upfront from 1 query.

The search space is the entire game, there is a LOT of stuff to comb through. It's not the same as the sun-moon-star puzzle where the answer is in two files or the shadow puzzles where you rotate a single object to fit a pattern. It's a treasure hunt with intentionally hard and obscure clues.

So it's fair when you say that it doesn't feel like a proper puzzle, we didn't really get a chance to go through it properly and mostly stopped partway through discovery.
The files on the girl and the report Grace starts with give us the biggest pieces of information towards the solution.

I think there are a few things here:
- we're looking at the solution and backfilling the linking clues
- we were very early on in the hunt
- the search space is the *entire game*
- there are no confirmations for intermediate steps/clues (not handholding)
- people were trying EVERYTHING
