Ok it’s off to be pumped. I’m not super in love with the shape of the head but will probably remake that soon.

We’re back … and just in time for spring.

Multiple neon tubes mounted inside a large box emerge from the floor. Two sides of the box are clear glass, allowing a view inside. Other surfaces within the box are glossy black, reflecting the glow of the tubes and creating an "infinity" effect. The tubes are green, red, orange, yellow, and blue.

Short pieces of clear neon tubing bent in a tight U-shape (double back) with varying degrees of mostly poor quality.

First time bending yesterday. I knew the craft wasn't easy, but my respect for those who do it is so much deeper now.

I will perfect my double back...one of these days. 😅

A clear plastic desktop telephone with a pink neon tube glowing inside. The internal circuit board and components are painted white to accentuate the effect of the neon.

My Cicena Roxanne phone is ALIVE! Turns out the switch on the back is a bit flaky. I haven't seen this thing glow since I was a kid, lots of good memories are flooding back.

Time to clean the dust off and get some Deoxit on that switch!

Dell Rhea's famous Chicken Basket in Willowbrook, IL (formerly Hinsdale). From humble beginnings as a gas station lunch counter, it opened on Route 66 in 1946, serving as a stopping place for those coming and going from Chicago. While Route 66 now bypasses the Basket, it's still open and fryin'.

The magical glow of the Starlite on Ocean Drive is just one of the many eye-catching neon signs that can be seen all along the Art Deco District in South Beach. Behind the Starlite is the enchanting blue neon of the Colony Hotel. The Art Deco District has a line of hotels and buildings showcasing the 1930's art deco architecture.

My photo of the amazing Streamline Art Moderne facade that is Murray’s, "Home of the Silver Butter Knife Steak,” open since 1946. The three-story building, originally from the 1880s, was remodeled with a turquoise square porcelain facade and a sleek vertical neon sign that says “Murrays” (along with three more horizontal neon signs that repeat the name of the restaurant, as well as “restaurant and “cocktail lounge”). There is a yellow cab taxi parked in front of the structure. (Photo taken in July 2009)

As I think of Minneapolis, this architecture geek is also thinking about the many cool buildings found throughout the city, including one of my favorites: Murray's, "Home of the Silver Butter Knife Steak,” open since 1946.
