I know itβs annoying that I constantly ask people to sub, but subbing makes a huge difference. @aftermath.site has around 5,000 paying subs right now; most of us still work other jobs on the side. we have over 90k bluesky followers. if a fraction subscribed, it would literally change our lives
The cover of Whale Watching Quarterly Issue #1, with the feature being the cast of Kisarazu Cats Eye in front of text reading βThe Year of Yassai Mossai 2003β
Featured in issue 1:
- I love Taiko no Tatsujin
- The Year of Yassai Mossai 2003
- First dev update in a while
- Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter and Zebraman 2: Attack on Zebra City
In a culmination of my long-standing desires to write more, have more fun, and make a zine, Iβve started a little digital zine Iβll be using to contain most of my writing and devlogs from now on
whalewatching.neocities.org
as an additional effect I have gotten very in-depth with godot lighting as well
A booth in a dimly lit diner with a jukebox in the background
A woman standing a the bar of the diner with counters and a fridge behind her
Moved onto some other stuff for the time being but I found out about @ambientcg.com pbr materials and have decided that realism is going to be my thing now

BYTEβs 50% off for the Steam winter sale right now!! Itβs not Halloween anymore but itβs always vampire season π§ββοΈπ§ββοΈπ§ββοΈπ§ββοΈπ§ββοΈπ§ββοΈ

Now I get to move onto character modeling and I have to actually learn how to model faces and hands after like eight years of using blender
work on my recreation of Portlandβs Pearl District continues I now have a whole bunch of buildings, cars, and started on a diner
#gamedev #godot #blender
So far this has involved porting my road generator over to godot (I want to be in godot now), adding sidewalks to it, figuring out lighting and rendering techniques, as well as learning better-practice 3D art but weβre in business now
Iβve been trying a few different things at once but for a few different projects I want to work on i want to recreate Portlandβs Pearl District in game form. So far I have a little pretty corner in progress
I promise Iβm doing other things now but am too busy setting up workflows and such to have interesting things to post but hopefully Iβll have new things soon ππ
Itβs not on sale because it launched less than a month ago but byteβs in the Steam Scream 4 Fest right now!! You might see it buried in the rpg tags as youβre searching for cool new things to play π§ββοΈπ©Έπ§ββοΈπ©Έπ§ββοΈ

A screenshot of the Steam admin page showing that byte is completely Steam Deck verified
Just got the email that byte is officially Steam Deck verified!! You can now officially trust that byte will run with full functionality on the go πββοΈ

amazing Iβm glad to be spreading the good word
also play byte obviously. Itβs like at least tangentially cyberpunk

byteβs out now(π§ββοΈ) but there are lots of punk movies I never got to so here are my letterboxd reviews of four final certified punk! classicsβ’οΈ
- Ikebukuro West Gate Park (2000, show)
- Repo Man (1984)
- Linda Linda Linda (2005)
- Velvet Goldmine (1998)
I think I just made a critical blunder of trying to release during the autumn sale so all the sale/refund requests were getting prioritized. They responded to my ticket within an hour of the sale ending lol
YEESSSSSS β€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ
Thanks! at like 2pm they responded to my support ticket asking me to try again and when that didnβt work a few hours later I got a note saying that the issue was fixed and it worked. idk whatβs going on but it seems like they need to fix it on their end. good luck!!!! πππ
The real joke about a steam bug delaying my release to October 6th is that for like a year and a half I was planning an October 6th release and then moved it up to the 1st so really Steam is just holding me to my plan exactly
PLAY BYTE NOOWWWW
At long last BYTE is out now on Steam for you to buy, download, and play at will!!!

Day 5(!!!!!) of waiting for steam to respond to me. today you should watch hackers. Itβs maybe the most famous punk movie and itβs awesome. Just wall to wall 90s hacker names and rollerblades
Day 4 todayβs movie is slc punk. itβs my favorite punk movie and one of my all-time favorite movies. this typically gets a little underrated in punk movie rankings because it starts out with the usual punk movie absurdity but ends shockingly honestly and seriously. I love the ending tho
Day 3 of not being able to release byte until Steam gets back to me. Today you should watch brass knuckle boys. Itβs written AND directed by the great Kankuro Kudo and it understands 21st century punk on a level I havenβt seen anywhere else (except other Kudo works)
In hindsight the delayed support response probably has to do with the steam sale (it seems like the amount of support requests doubled from 9/29 to 9/30) so note to self donβt release your game in the middle of a major steam sale next time
Still no response from Steam support so instead Iβll just post about punk movies Iβve been watching lately until byte is out. This image is from wild zero, a 1999 zombie movie that is mostly an excuse for Japanese noise rock band guitar wolf to break stuff and scream about the power of rock and roll
An image of guitar wolf, from the band guitar wolf, in the movie wild zero, saying βBelieve in rockβnβroll!β
Steam still has not gotten back to me about the error (bug?) blocking me from releasing byte so Iβm choosing to follow the wise words of my hero guitar wolf and believe in rock and roll in order to get this game out there
On a related note, if anyone knows what to do about the error steam throws when trying to release that says βNo video files have been uploaded for this trailerβ lmk
Actively trying to release byte but steam is just throwing an error and their support team hasnβt gotten back to me. promise the game is coming out imminently, but steam is not making it easy
