My kid was most surprised at how little the teachers did to protect the girl, but also at classmates who mostly just shrugged or also welcomed him back. Sadly we spent the day talking about the culture of male impunity.
For International Women's Day, I had to explain to my youngest why the school welcomed back with open arms a boy who punched a girl he had long been harassing. He got to come back and even go on another trip while my kid's friend spends the remainder of her senior year in online school.
