An oil on canvas painting of a woman dressed in a beautiful white or silver gown in the style of the 1800s, sitting on a large and plush couch, holding a large wooden harp in her lap that she is playing as she looks directly at the artist. There are volumes of velvet curtain behind her, a book of music on the couch next to her, and other rich looking furnishings around the room.

Today we’re sharing this beautiful portrait of Miss Catherine O’Conor and her harp for our second post in #MusicMarch!

Did you know that Ireland is the only country to have a musical instrument (the harp) as its national symbol?

A bright, colourful, and slightly absurdist oil painting of a woman riding a donkey whilst carrying an alarmingly tall stack of brightly patterned boxes. The top box is open and a bird has popped out. The donkey has on striped socks and in front of the donkey and woman walks a bird with a long beak, who is carrying another box on his back that is open and has a smaller bird sitting on the lid.

A three-dimensional artwork from a UCC BEES student, showing a large, black bird's head with open beak situated above a scene of dirt with tall, thick, leaved plants growing out of it, one of which has a striped caterpillar sitting on a leaf, with a mouse and green beetle on the ground next to the stalks of the plants.

An artwork by a UCC BEES student showing a side-profile of a strawberry plant, seen from both above and below ground. The plant above ground is vibrantly green with leaves, strawberries in various stages of growth, and a couple of flowers and buds; below the ground, the roots are stretching in all directions. The plant may have some kind of fungus or disease though, as three of the many roots have black blotches on them that are starting to spread up to the base of the plant, and one of the smaller, lower branches that has the blotches is also browning in the leaves.
