I would like to thank Companion AI for helping promote my latest in @mcsweeneys.net. I had worried my satire was too dark. This Einstein product reassures me that it was optimistic sunshine.

If this world seems to get weirder and weirder, you're just seeing Anthroponuclear Multiple Worlds Theory in action π www.smbc-comics.com/comic/histor...

Yeah, feels like a lose-lose situation except for lawyers indeed.
What's special about those 36 though? And what's special about Scotland for not having any Uni on that list?
I made a map of 3.4 million Bluesky users - see if you can find yourself!

I've seen some similar projects, but IMO this seems to better capture some of the fine-grained detail

*planning* to reverse. It's a minority government, all their plans first need to find support from the opposition....
2023 post from Avery Edison: I wrote βI am aliveβ on a piece of paper, and placed it into a photocopier. What I saw next has shocking implications
Anyway, since we're looking to learn some lessons, here's a much older story of a company that went bust because their 'backup' was just a mirror of the live system.
You know, just in case someone missed Backups 101 too.

So that "chatGPT ate my notes" thing today. Imagine complaining "I put all my stuff on someone else's machine and now it's gone" a decade ago. You'd have been laughed all the way back to Data Security 101. But wrap a non-story in genAI and suddenly you're in every feed.
I would have thought this is (Artificial) Cognitive Systems, rather than Cognitive Science (see e.g. the definition from David Vernon's primer):
I used to live on Avenue Road Extension, a name made up of three road types but no actual name.
I suppose they just need to balance out stuff like this π And place names like Tiddleywink π
I couldn't either, but it did find this, which has the scores (and links to an opinium page but I can't find Polanski on that one). In any case, the scores are, in descending order, -1, -4, -10, -12 and -43 π

A post by Rebecca Johnson: βI finally learned how to teach my guys to ID the passive voice. If you can insert "by zombies" after the verb, you have passive voice.β A tumblr respond from mightymur: βThe final, brilliant word on passive voice. "She was killed [by zombies.]"<--passive "Zombies killed [by zombies] her." <-- activeβ
Because it feels relevant as we continue to evaluate the media and our representativesβ statements, my favorite way to identify the active vs. passive voice.
it requires synchronous communication but at the same time cuts out all the multimodal aspects while giving you just enough to really notice their absence. At least text is obviously impoverished (and asynch is possible)
phone calls are the uncanny valley of comms and not even practical
hatred of phone calls, no competition. We will accept Whatsapp/Signal as well as Teams/Zoom calls before we will even consider the phone.
Amusingly, Godzilla is also the original name of Gojira (the band).
I wonder if unlocking that kind of higher level metacognition would be a power or a curse π
Ben tu vois, quand un Γ©clair et un pain au chocolat s'aiment fortement..... π
Me too! Especially now that I seem to be living in Luxembourg again π
Sadly, it feels like more people than youβd hope can still learn from this. πhttps://www.smbc-comics.com
Yeah, there is definitely skill involved. Also making sure you don't turn the yolks into scrambled eggs because you didn't pay attention to the heat, etc. I still think it qualifies as a quick comfort-food-level dish though π
Carbonara is great for teaching Mise en Place 101. There's really not a lot to prep, and it's not hard, but the difference between doing it and not doing it is the difference between a smooth 10 mins in the kitchen and overdone pasta congealing while you pick grated finger bits out of the cheese.
There's also this spoof of 9-11 conspiracy theory vids in case you still think Luke and Leia are the good guys in Star Wars π

Iβd say that depends on the faculty π
I still have a pic from the blue drinks evening that miraculously survived a dozen mobile phone changes since then. Those were the times.
Well, I probably wouldnβt make her chocolate guinness cake in a Glastonbury campsite tent π
the trick is to realise theyβre not mutually exclusive π
