🔹Since learning more about the fundamentals of #UnarmedCivilianProtection through NP, safety volunteers at the South Asian Council for Social Services (SACSS) food pantry in #NYC, have been using #nonviolent tactics to stay calm when approached by police officials or authorities.
❗️It is our responsibility to the communities we work with to call out the harm they endure and to prioritise their protection. As hostilities intensify and tensions deepen, protection of #civilians remains the utmost, urgent priority.

💬 "In the communities where we work, people are concerned about whether it is safe to send their children to school, to go to work, or even to sleep through the night.” -Thiago Wolfer, NP Head of Mission in #Iraq
🚨Civilians across the #MiddleEast are currently facing an unprecedented escalation of regional violence.
"It has been increasingly challenging to hold these questions and have to walk participants through what they could be doing when the situation can sometimes be very uncertain and unpredictable," Dela Fuente noted.

🚨 As we mark the fourth anniversary of the invasion of #Ukraine, we're uplifting the ‘Safe Transport for Emergency Evacuations and Logistics’ (STEEL) project, an initiative co-implemented by NP and the Relief Coordination Centre (RCC).
Today marks four years since Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
We spoke to Anastasiya Marchuk of @nonviolentpeaceforce.org about their inspiring work on the ground to protect civilians and build peace side-by-side with local communities.
Four years following the invasion of #Ukraine, initiatives focused on veteran reintegration are crucial to healing communities and reducing risks for violence.
By working alongside local partners to strengthen #psychosocial support, prepare communities, and equip families with practical tools for #reintegration, NP is helping ensure that veterans like Yurii are not left to navigate the return home alone.

🌳 But, while attending a six-day #veterans’ retreat, Yurii and Katya found space to reconnect, reflect, and begin healing together.
💬 “Here, I felt alive again” -Yurii, Veterans' Retreat Participant, Ukraine
After returning from the frontlines, Yurii struggled to find his place in civilian life. The transition strained his career, his sense of identity, and his relationship with his wife, Katya.
💬 “Four years into the full-scale invasion, #civilians in frontline communities are living under the constant threat of short-range drones and artillery.” -Anastasiya Marchuk, Head of Mission, NP #Ukraine
🔸 Our latest impact report on the “Safe Transport for Emergency Evacuations and Logistics” (STEEL) consortium-led efforts shows that while locally led armoured evacuations are saving lives under fire, they remain dangerously under resourced as #protection needs grow.

🇺🇦 As #Ukraine marks the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion, NP warns that escalating #drone warfare is driving the latest steep rise in #civilian deaths and other harms, while putting frontline volunteers at extreme risk.
The United States should join them, but instead, its decision to expand its cluster munitions arsenal puts it dramatically out of step with #CivilianProtection practices and the international consensus against these weapons.

Cluster Munitions pose an unacceptable risk to civilians and we are calling for a categorical ban on their sale, use, transfer, and stockpiling of the weapons. More than 100 states have ratified the treaty.
When used in populated areas, cluster munitions violate international humanitarian law because they can't distinguish between civilians and combatants.
❗️NP, along with 35 other orgs, opposes the United States’ reported $210 million purchase of cluster munitions from Tomer, a company owned by the Israeli government.
♦️ When you #RaiseYourRed, you raise awareness about this critical issue and take a stand against these harms. Together, we commit to better #protection, #prevention and accountability for all children.
❌ When children are recruited and used in armed conflict, they are not only exposed to extreme violence and grave human rights abuses, they often also lose access to education, health, and other #HumanRights.
🗓️ On February 12, 2002, an international treaty banning the participation of children under 18 in hostilities came into force. Since then, the global community marks February 12 as Red Hand Day to raise awareness about the recruitment and use of children in #ArmedConflict.
❗️Today marks #RedHandDay. At NP, our red hands are raised high to demand an end to the recruitment and use of #ChildrenInArmedConflict. Let’s take a look at how Red Hand Day came to be and why it’s so important.
Calls for action:
Civilians across #Ukraine are bearing the consequences as Russia launches the largest hybrid attack on Ukraine's energy infrastructure yet, targeting electricity sources and gas lines across major cities amid winter’s coldest days.
