The airport is still called Ayers Rock - I think I recall this was at the request of the traditional owners (eg only Uluṟu is Uluṟu, not the surrounding hotels or airports)

Awful news - we love your animals and your updates. Please give Abla endless cuddles from us all xxx
After all the prevaricating from the Government, it was refreshing to read a clear assertion from an expert: these actions are illegal
LOL when I was a teenager I actually owned a flame-speckled Charvel of this vintage with a reverse headstock… not my finest hour
Wow.
Some absolutely appalling videos emerging of NSW Police actions last night. Repeatedly punching restrained people, dragging people away who were praying (!?).
People weren’t rioting, they were just trying to march. The Police brought the violence.
Utterly indefensible @chrisminnsmp.bsky.social
Awful news. Jon was brilliant.
Kinda cool they managed to print the symbols rather than just call the album “Led Zeppelin IV” like everyone else did
BREAKING
Amazon have just announced their next blockbuster movie release:
Melania 2: Electric Boogaloo
Watching a livestream of the MFA shows what its rally about.
Chants of “foreigners out”, “send them back”, and overhearing a guy joking they should take over Vic Parliament House “like they did at the White House on January 6” (yes he got the building wrong)
It’s actually been cool to see everyone post their fave Midnight Oil videos in the last day… there are some great 80s gigs captured on YouTube I hadn’t ever seen before
Vale Rob Hirst.
I grew up in the 90s and so didn’t really dig Midnight Oil during the era of alternative music. Then I saw them live at a festival gig and was blown away by how great they were.
There is no other drummer who could make that band sound like they did.

This thread is absolutely wild
Hah! He was also the housemate of one of my lifelong friends back then… still releasing new music now I think
My favourite high-school era music store… now a Nandos outlet, alas
This is cool - their first TV performance on the classic Letterman late night show. I’ve always liked Radio Free Europe and this is a good version youtu.be/dW62Q0TTgS0?...
Hello there #ShakeShack Australia
Popped out to buy dinner ingredients in this crazy 40C+ weather, and could barely stand to be outside for 10 minutes.
I have absolutely no idea how firefighters manage to do their job on days like today - they absolutely deserve our thanks

It is a good spot
My parents decided to buy their first air con unit when they came home on a hot day and I was just lying in a starfish pose on the kitchen tiles! I think I’d been there for an hour or more
This is an excellent thread if you’re anxious about SE Australia’s upcoming heatwave and don’t have access to / the financial ability to run your own air con
I’m self-sufficient nowadays, but as a teenager HATED the heat and had no way to escape it. I dreaded Summer.
I don’t support the ban but I think the HC challenge is a bit tenuous… I’d be surprised if the HC found our rights to political communication require all forms of communicating to be accessible just in case someone wants to use them for political discussion
Still, the lawyers are smarter than I!
“Revealed” is one of my least-favourite media words when they are just publishing information.
Also “bundled out” whenever a tennis player is beaten in a tournament (oddly specific, I know!)

Oh OK so was it pager broadcasts he’d accessed on a scanner? Even then, you wouldn’t routinely send heaps of private medical data via pager I wouldn’t have thought?
I’m more wondering why that data was being sent on a frequency in the first place… a data link? (They are normally secure out of the box)
Just curious to know what exactly he’d picked up with the scanner, at what frequency and how was it modulated… like, what WAS it
