But nope. I’ve got it too. It doesn’t come out often, but sometimes it sneaks out when I’m stressed out. I don’t shout, but my tone and my face get very mean. And maybe you figure if it’s only now and then it wouldn’t be so bad.

Except it is. And I have a lot to lose if it gets away from me.

My brother used to lash out unfairly at us growing up, and I’ve seen him work hard to stay calm with his own kids. I’ve seen my uncle’s road rage. Now that we’re older my mom has filled us in on how bad our dad could get when he wasn’t in “charming public figure” mode.

I’ve had a very sad revelation the past few years about myself that I hate, and it’s that I was not exempt from an anger issue that I’ve seen in my family, particularly my dad’s side.
