I chose the bunny.net route, but pre-compute my images on upload, so I just use their storage, backed by a CDN.

I'd use (and do use) Tailscale, it "Just works(tm)" and that's all that matters, really. It has an app on every platform, gets out of your way and you just forget it's actually there, doing things.
Same combo here! I like that I can just keep everything default and it "Just works(tm)".
