It seems a common pattern to idolize people without acknowledging that almost all of them have major flaws too. Many of the people that are talked about as having done "great things" also did some really bad stuff too.

Best idea I ever saw at an event in DC - World Wide Pride in this case - was a few houses that'd put an extension cord with some phone chargers on it over the fence for attendees to use.
