Who Wants to Be a Superhero? Is one of my favorite shows ever and Iβm so glad we were able to publish an essay about it. Itβs quite forgotten for how culturally important it is.
ROTIART spelled backwards is...
TRAITOR!!!!!
Also watch monkey woman grapple with two attack dogs for 15 minutes and tell me you didnβt feel something (yes this was a real woman and a real stunt)
What strikes me about the show is it genuinely has more pathos (especially towards the end) than any marvel product made while I have been alive
Bright, colorful, overwhelmingly comedic, and surprisingly emotional: Superheroes before the Marvel Cinematic Universe

patently insane reality shows from the 00s are my truest joy in life
This is one of these fascinating cultural objects to me that has outsized cultural importance for how little its remembered. Superheroes were basically a giant punchline before the MCU, before everyone demanded we take Thor VII: Age of Drangus or whatever super seriously.

A forgotten reality show is the last snapshot we have of how the world viewed superheroes before they became a foundational pillar of American popular culture.

Like the author here I once went in search of the "original" Robin Hood (and later King Arthur) when aged about 12. I wanted to know story the later myths were built on. I had this notion that there were "original" versions of the Greek myths somewhat like Homer's Illiad and Odyssey.....
