Awesome, Nuts & Bolts representation!
Awesome, Nuts & Bolts representation!
How does the tiny SLO head sound, anyway? Did they stuff a tiny tube amp into that thing or is it just a digital recreation
There's so much more I'd like to do for indie collaboration, I was talking to some friends about arranging an online gaming magazine of sorts but specifically to talk about actual indie games. Sadly I've got my hands full just trying to make the damn games so haven't had the opportunity to do that
Itβs the newsletter day, and it's finally time to talk about some game design!
Specifically, what's actually been going on in our heads with this strange 3D platformer we've been quietly working on...

Docker is honestly exactly the solution that we should avoid, lol. It hides a lot of the deployment away in automation, making troubleshooting a nightmare, but deployment itself is still kind of an arcane terminal process. It's the kind of shit that scares away newbies from hosting something for fun
A lot of backend tasks remain in the 90s methods despite how far we've come in software since. It's not an impossible task to write a UI to just automatically run the scripts that have been created for deployment anyway. It wouldn't even take anything away from the power users.
Self-hosting could be so much easier with a basic deployment application that would automatically set up the database and routing for a program. I think quite a few more people would be interested in setting up their own forums or chat servers if the process was this over of a load of arcane scripts
Software in general has had a major issue where innovative and intentional design has been shunned in favour of easier programming solutions and doing the thing everyone else is doing. FOSS has this doubly over, since most projects don't have any clients complaining about how unintuitive it is
I have not used Teams in 3 years and even then it was on a company laptop I don't have anymore, yet the program keeps reinstalling and reactivating itself on my computers, every time I do a windows update
Had to uninstall Teams from my laptop for the third time this week because it had reinstalled itself yet again and started running in the background. I swear to god I'll be finding remnants of it in my backed up files ten years from now like it's a disabled worm
I keep getting the strangest spam to my inbox through my site
I was once in talks with these guys to make music for their games, not entirely sure if I missed a chance or dodged a bullet now
Nope, this is an absolute belter though
Did... you actually watch that video? He says in it that 60fps animation, when done for real without AI, looks fantastic (and has an example of 48fps animation from another youtube animator), but that it's not worth the gigantic amount of effort required over animating on 2s and 3s like usual
But which one are you? And, deep down, are you really sure about that?
Twinsanity is shockingly fun considering how blatantly unfinished the game is
Unfinished cover of the Uka-Uka boss theme from Crash Twinsanity, made last October. I didn't really know how to make the bridge part sound good so I lost motivation and never replaced the scratch guitar tracks with better ones after actually practicing the song, lol
Which one do you think would have an easier learning process? From a quick glance, both seem to support all the techniques I'd really need from notation software, so it seems to be mostly a matter of how much of a pain in the ass the software is.
Anyone know of a good tab engraving tool, maybe something that could also be used to translate guitar tabs to note engravings? I've always sucked hot ass at reading and writing scores but I kinda need to learn that if I want to write down my guitar ideas

It suffers from microsoftisms in general in that the language is held back by a lot of early 2000s java-isms and ms is consistently going "what if we changed literally anything but that? have more AI". It's the same issue as all their programming products have (MSVC my beloathed)

Account annoyingly avoids added alliterative appeal amid additional appendix. On Bluesky. Dammit.
It's like whenever I talk to Linux users about how I'd like to get out of Windows but my FL workflow is making that a little hard, and they recommend LMMS. Like, my good friend, it's not going to be viable to abandon 15 years of in-field experience for the Fischer-Price version of the software I use
