As a writer, one of the most useful books I own is Nöfn Íslendinga (The Names of Icelanders). It lists, in alphabetical order, all the names that Icelanders have ever born*. It's so useful when naming characters and it's now online!

yup! and the difference between wool and something like silk is just the fineness of the base fibre, the low-level "stickability" functions pretty much the same
the fibres (and not just wool, lots of stuff has this property) have enough natural stick that when you spin them together they stay put unless you intentionally start pulling them apart
