So Philip Glass just joined TikTok. He only has like 4 posts and they’re simply him in what I assume is his living room playing the piano. First comment on one I saw was “your piano is too close to the fireplace, you’ll dry it out” and if that’s not the internet in a nutshell I don’t know what is.

I'm thinking about this a lot lately because I have plans for an upcoming project that will make use of some more experimental sound design techniques and it might be fun to keep the idea of doing live performances in mind while writing. Think ancient instrument + live processing.

That, the Behringer FCB-1010 pedals, a laptop, and homebrew patches/software made the backbone of my electro-acoustic ambient sets back in the day (usually with cello or guitar, but sometimes bowed cymbals, and a piano at my senior recital). I haven't found cheap faders/knobs since.

I really miss my old UC-33e. It was made from super cheap plastic, the faders had a short throw and had the tendency to pop off in backpacks, it sometimes got glitchy, and you could brick it if you dropped it, but just having a set of cheap faders AND knobs was super handy.

Finally deciding to get myself screened for "stupid brain". If I manage to find a way to vanquish my executive dysfunction, it's over for you idiots.

Hot take:
Everything in Manhattan is either Financial District, West Village, East Village/Lower East Side, Midtown, Upper West Side, Upper East side. "The City" refers to Manhattan, but NYC is the entire metro area, and if I can't get there by subway or LIRR, it's "Upstate".

I loved the idea of doing live granular synthesis/processing with a modular synth setup, but then I realized it's SUPER expensive to set up and at the end of the day, not nearly as flexible as patching in max/msp.
I guess I dodged that bullet. I think I'm finally ready to get back into patching.

I would find the prospect of having to be in one of those "What's in my bag" Amoeba Record vids or the "Criterion Closet Pick" vids incredibly stressful. I feel like your selections would have to represent the totality of you and your sense of taste and I don't need that kind of pressure.

I wish there was a timer for the bluesky mute button. Sometimes if a user is getting particularly repost happy in a short period of time, they take over my feed so I need to put them in time out, but then I forget to unmute.

The drums sound incredible. Really chewy sounding.

Soften the hair with hot water first. Doing it after a shower is good, but a hot moist towel also works.
After you shave, rinse with cold water to help close the pores.
Use a nice non-alcohol based aftershave. It should feel kind of like lotion and shouldn't sting.

Skip any razors with cartridges or multiple blades. Just get an old school razor with a real single replaceable razor.
Don't press the blade into the face/neck - a good sharp blade and the weigh of the razor will do the work
Shave WITH the hair, not against
Get the blade really hot

Not to mention indie makes life in the US unaffordable - something I think non professionals should understand is that indie can't pay living wages currently.

It was so temperate yesterday, I seriously had doubts we were going to get hit, but stocked up on groceries and other sundries anyway just in case.
Pretty glad I can just hunker down now. It would not be pleasant to trudge through that for eggs and TP.
