It completely fails as an argument about social marginalization, but almost sidesteps the issue if you don't look at it too hard!

To be fair, the most common pushback came from the crowd who thinks that everyone abandoned monogamy and that monogamous people constitute a numerical minority in society now. But quite a few poly people didn't like the implication that most social structures implicitly disfavor polyamory.

When I started seriously posting about polyamory a few years ago, I approached it from a social and legal marginalization angle. Even other poly people pushed back against that and it really revealed that a lot of people just don't grasp how social structures work. We need a lot of work on this.

The problem with the majority of “I’m poly!” personal essays is that they focus on the personal, emotional journey of leaving monogamy — which is always going to be fraught — instead of the legal marginalization of nonmonogamous people.

One benefit to the lack of reading comprehension is that a lot of people also lack writing comprehension, which means a lot of trolls accidentally reveal their ulterior motives in their tone and word choice.
