i think badges as locations could also work, though they would conflict with using just about anything else as locations because there's badges for stuff like effects, specific locations, endings etc

if i manage to figure out switch and counter read/write then i can implement just about anything. and then all i need to do is dig through the 2kki project file for all the necessary ids and that's that

i THINK the yno internals should be all you need to make a client. MAYBE. i did some light reading of forest-orb and it hooks into the easyrpg instance enough that you can extract stuff like the location and such from it
