As you say, the green bin program is still the responsibility of the city. Four weeks for a replacement seems excessive!

An honour and pleasure to speak with Peter MacLeod on his thought-provoking and important book on participatory democracy. Highly recommend for anyone interested in making democracy work better - by including the public in more direct and genuine ways!

Well, it’s in the paper, so I guess I’m actually running! Really enjoyed speaking with Charlie Senack at the Kitchissippi Times #ottnews
“Carney has been clear: the assumptions Canadians have held about our closest ally are outdated…Our elbows are up, but where are we to stand in response to the crisis? It’s time to show Canadians how they can help — and how together we can hold the line.” Great piece by @petermacleod.bsky.social.
Cost for sure … but I also think engineering/feasibility will be a major factor (which is relate to cost, of course, but also physical risks … we all remember the Rideau sinkhole)
This week, a resident in our community died and 19 others lost their homes after a fire broke out in their small apartment building. Hintonburg Community Association has launched a fund to help, if you'd like to donate: hintonburg.com/community-fi... #ottnews
Real question @glengower.ca : Do the delays around launching LRT East Stage 2 have anything to do with not being able to have enough working trains operating on an extended system? #ottnews
I hope we can see some security measures at 1041 (and other buildings where people feel unsafe) in the near future!
I was glad to spend time with seniors at 1041 Wellington West over tea, and hear directly from them about their safety concerns.
Everyone deserves to feel safe in their community, and that’s something we can work towards together.
It's been 4 YEARS since two LRT trains derailed and we still don't have a fix. We don't even know the root cause of this problem. Where is the accountability on this huge project? More important, when can riders start relying on our LRT system? #ottnews

Excited about the launch of @petermacleod.bsky.social’s new book, Democracy’s Second Act! It’s written for everyone worried about polarization & the growing sense of frustration with politics. Sign up for Ottawa book launch with @jchianello.bsky.social on Feb 12th! www.eventbrite.ca/e/book-launc...
I love how this video by @jleiper.bsky.social shows how a seemingly technical issue like the comprehensive zoning bylaw has a direct impact on our quality of life. It’s one of the many reasons why City Hall matters!

Some heavy lifting by council’s planning members on a plan years in the making. Tune into the final decision in January! (Because who isn’t thinking about the final CZB debate during the holidays?)

Will be interested in examining the details of this announcement - and how much it will cost the city - but looks like good news for affordable housing in Ottawa!
Sous réserve de l'approbation du Conseil, cette entente permettra de construire jusqu'à 3 000 nouveaux logements abordables dans notre ville. Ottawa montre la voie en construisant plus de logements et en les construisant plus rapidement.

The Parkdale Market lit up Ottawa's most delightful public tree today in memory of longtime vendor Maurice Lavoie, assisted by his widow Claire. It was a busy day in the ward and I was happy to see my friends @catmckenney.bsky.social and @jchianello.bsky.social again!

The City has significantly improved its sidewalk snow clearing in recent years, but cost pressures mean they won't codify the change. Residents in walkable neighbourhoods should be able to hold them (and us) to account for something better than 2003 standards.

I hope neighbours can join Elder Verna McGregor, Mayor Sutcliffe, Dave Allston and me to cut the ribbon on the new Papichì Park at the corner of Spencer and Huron on Saturday at 11. We'll have warm drinks and some short words. (Papichì is the Algonquin Inòdewiziwin word for Robin).
