4/ Fatima Sheikh's legacy lives on today as we continue to advance her mission to end patriarchy and caste apartheid. Now, we must fight to ensure that Fatima’s contributions to India’s women and caste-oppressed communities will not be erased. Jai Bhim! 💛💙
3/ Despite severe opposition, Fatima fought to empower girls at a time when education was a privilege limited to dominant caste men, so we celebrate Fatima’s legacy with revolutionary joy and gratitude for her groundbreaking work.
2/ Fatima worked closely with fellow anti-caste and feminist activists of her time, including Jyotirao Phule and Savitribai Phule, a couple who established multiple schools for girls of all backgrounds. Their friendship represents a model for interfaith and intercaste allyship that we celebrate.
1/ Today we celebrate Fatima Sheikh, India’s first Muslim woman teacher. Born in 1831, Fatima Sheikh was a dedicated and revolutionary educator who taught children of all castes and religions. ✊🏾💙📚
